The Heartbreak Prescription

Warren didn’t hesitate for a second. “I’m Shaun’s best friend. Of course I’m willing to help him. But what do you want me to do?”

Chelsea leaned in, her voice coaxing and sweet. “What we need to do is break up Shaun and Ms. Mallin.”

Warren shook his head. “I know Shaun too well. He’s crazy about her. No matter what she does, no matter how much she hurts him, he always forgives her. I’ve tried to come between them before, but it’s useless. If I push too far, I might ruin my friendship with him.”

“That’s exactly why we have to help him,” Chelsea pressed on. “We both know that she’s going to ruin Shaun. As his best friend, can you really just sit back and watch his life fall apart because of her?”

Warren’s fists clenched tightly with a crackling sound. “Of course not! I won’t let that happen. Alright, tell me-what’s your plan? You must have something in mind already.”

Chelsea nodded. “I do. You need to call her and ask her to meet up.”

Warren didn’t respond right away.

Chelsea continued, “If I asked her to come, she’d never show. But if you call her, she’ll definitely come.”

Warren gave a small nod. “And then?”

Chelsea pulled out a small packet of powder. “Then, you slip this into her tea.”

Warren stared at it, caught off guard. “What is this?”

She avoided his eyes, trying to sound casual. “You don’t need to worry about that. Just make sure she drinks it, and I’ll take care of the rest.”

Warren hesitated. “This isn’t something dangerous, is it?”

Chelsea smiled inwardly. It was a miscarriage drug. If Halsey took it, she’d lose the baby for sure.

She was counting on Warren to unknowingly do her dirty work. That way, when Halsey eventually told Shaun about the pregnancy, Chelsea would be off the hook completely.

Chelsea had spent years getting close to Warren, building trust and playing nice with him. Now was the time to use it. noveldrama

Of course, she wasn’t about to tell him the truth.

She flashed a smile. “It’s just a regular laxative. Just something to teach her a little lesson. If she keeps thinking she can mess with Shaun and get away with it, she needs a wake-up call.”

Warren still looked unsure. “But…”

“You’re Shaun’s best friend. If even you won’t step in to help him, then he really is doomed,” Chelsea said firmly, pushing the guilt button.

That did it.

Warren sighed and finally nodded. “Shaun and I have been friends for years. I can’t let him drown like this.”

He took the powder from her. “I’ve got his back.”

Chelsea smiled. “Great! Then call Ms. Mallin right now. We can’t afford to wait.”

Warren stood up. “Okay. I’ll call her.”

He walked away with his phone in his hand.

Chelsea leaned back in her seat and sipped her tea, completely at ease.

A moment later, Gilbert strolled over and sat down across from her. “I have to say, using someone else to do the dirty work is a great trick. Warren actually thinks he’s helping his buddy, but he doesn’t even realize that he’s about to kill his best friend’s baby.”

Chelsea curled her lips into a smirk. “I’ve been cozying up to Warren all this time just for this moment. When the dust settles, we’ll both walk away clean.”
