After her rebirth

Chapter 309 Making a Scene

A few days later, Katniss found some free time and decided to bring a homemade lunch to Maximilian at his office.

Navigating through the building without any trouble, she soon found herself standing in front of Maximilian.

Seeing Katniss, Maximilian immediately asked Emilio to leave. When he noticed the lunch in her hands, he couldn't help but feel a warmth in his heart.

"What brings you here with lunch all of a sudden?" he asked, a smile spreading across his face.

Katniss grinned. "I just wanted to see you."

She had just received the good news that she had passed the first round of a selection process and wanted to share it with Maximilian right away, so she made lunch and brought it over.

"I've missed you too," Maximilian said, gently patting her head. "In a few days, I'll take some time off so we can go out and have some fun."

He had been very busy lately, but he had been planning to take Katniss out for a while. Although they had their wedding, they were both so busy that they hadn't had a proper honeymoon, and he wanted to make it up to her.

Katniss was taken aback. "Go out and have fun?"

Maximilian nodded and asked, "Don't you want to?"

"Of course I do, but I have to attend an off-campus training soon."

"The International Medical Association?" Maximilian guessed.

Katniss nodded and smiled as she shared the good news. "Yeah, Maximilian, I passed the first round. There's still some time before the second round of tests, and Brent said it's best to attend the national off-campus training before that."

The first round had only granted 100 application slots nationwide, and after the first round of selection, only 40 people had passed. The off-campus training was meant to gather these 40 people for some time of training and exchange before the second round began.

"Where's the training? I'll go with you," Maximilian said, thinking about the time he had finally managed to free up and not wanting to waste it. Besides, if the training was in another city, he didn't feel comfortable leaving Katniss alone.

"In Starhaven," Katniss said with a smile. "I've never been to Starhaven. Will you come with me?"

She didn't want to be apart from Maximilian either. If he could really take the time to go to Starhaven with her, it would be perfect.

"Of course, I'll go with you," Maximilian said, patting her head again.

They hadn't been talking for long when Katniss received a call from Brent. She didn't shy away and answered it directly.

Brent mentioned a time and place, and Katniss realized he was informing her of the specific departure time.

"That soon?" Katniss was surprised to hear they were leaving the next day and looked at Maximilian apologetically.

Maximilian, hearing the voice on the other end of the call, said, "You go ahead first. I'll have Conrad go with you. I'll come find you as soon as I finish my work."

Brent, realizing Maximilian was with Katniss, joked, "Are you going to follow her personally? Are you that worried?"

"Yeah, I am," Maximilian replied lazily, then hung up the phone while holding Katniss's hand.

Katniss smiled helplessly, knowing that Brent and Maximilian were good friends, and didn't say anything more.

"Maximilian, I didn't expect to leave so soon. I need to go back and pack my things," Katniss said regretfully.

She had thought she had a few more days before leaving, so she had leisurely come to share the good news and bring lunch to Maximilian. She hadn't expected it to be so soon, almost catching her off guard.

Maximilian grabbed his suit jacket from the chair and put it on as he said, "I'll leave work early today and go home with you to help you pack."

Katniss looked at him in surprise, not expecting him to suddenly leave work.

Maximilian said, "What are you standing there for? Let's go."

Katniss followed him in a daze.

Emilio watched them leave and adjusted his glasses.

When they got home, Maximilian seriously helped Katniss pack her things and even packed his own.

Seeing Maximilian place his suitcase next to hers, Katniss asked, "Are you really packing so soon?"

Maximilian confirmed, "Yeah, I won't make you wait too long."

Katniss blushed slightly, and the atmosphere between them was particularly gentle.

Meanwhile, unlike the harmony at Golden Crest Estates, the Boleyn family and the Elise family were in the midst of a heated conflict.

Ace had someone investigate and found plenty of evidence that Desmond was still in contact with Clara. He even had photos of Desmond meeting Clara a few days ago, with Desmond holding Clara as they entered a hotel.

Clara was leaning against Desmond, crying her heart out.

"This engagement is off!" Ace said furiously, slamming the photos on the table.

Brynn, shocked and heartbroken, clung to a last shred of hope. "Dad, could these photos be from before?"

"How could they be from before? These were taken just a few days ago! You've been with Desmond for so long, and he's still seeing that woman, even taking her to a hotel!" Ace's anger was palpable as he continued, "I'll handle this. You don't need to contact him anymore."

The Elise family might not be the most prominent in Luminous City, but they were still well-regarded. Ace was determined to make the Boleyn family understand that they were not to be trifled with.

Brynn wanted to say more, but Quinlan stopped her.

Ace stormed out with the photos and went straight to Gabriel.

"Look at what your son has done, Gabriel. This engagement is off," Ace declared.

Ace and Gabriel had known each other for decades. Although they hadn't been particularly close in recent years, they weren't about to let a single incident ruin everything.

Besides, Gabriel's second son might be a troublemaker, but his eldest, Maximilian, was a powerhouse in Luminous City's business world. Ace had to consider Maximilian's influence.

"Ace, we can't just call off the engagement like this. Many people in Luminous City know about their relationship. It would be a laughingstock," Gabriel said, trying to salvage the situation despite his anger at Desmond.

"A laughingstock? Did your son think about that when he did this?" Ace retorted coldly, clearly displeased with Desmond.

Gabriel sighed, looking over the photos carefully. "When were these taken?"

Ace provided the date.noveldrama

Gabriel realized Desmond must have sneaked out to see Clara behind his back, feeling both angry and disappointed.

"Ace, wait here. I'll bring that ungrateful son of mine to apologize and explain everything to you," Gabriel said, not understanding what Desmond was thinking. He quickly went upstairs, leaving Ace to be attended to.
