Chapter 848 Ruby Was Tricked

Ruby, upon hearing this, quickly turned and walked downstairs. "Cliff, how long has Peter been missing? Call the police immediately, I'll come over and help you find

Peter."

"Okay, okay, Ruby, thank you. His parents are not here. If something happens to Peter, I really don't know how to explain it to them," Cliff said gratefully.

Ruby comforted her with a few words and hung up the phone. She put on her shoes and turned to leave.

She was extremely anxious. Cliff's grandson was only five years old. If such a small child were to be kidnapped, the consequences would be unimaginable.

She jogged out of the villa, and her phone suddenly rang. She answered it while running.

Donovan's cold voice came through the earpiece, "Where are you going?"

"My former neighbor's grandson is missing. His parents are both working out of town. I

need to help find Peter. Can I take the afternoon off?" Ruby said, panting.

Donovan stood by the floor-to-ceiling window on the second floor, watching her figure disappear from sight. For some reason, he felt uneasy.

"Wait outside, I'll go with you."

Ruby was stunned and quickly said, "No need, I've already left the villa area. You go ahead with your work. I've already asked Cliff to call the police."

Donovan was displeased, "Wait outside, I'll be there soon."

Ruby stood on the road outside the villa area. It was not easy to get a taxi here, and she had to walk a bit further. She was torn between taking a taxi or waiting for Donovan to pick her up.

Suddenly, a car drove up in front of her, a silver-gray Volkswagen. The car screeched to a halt in front of her, and two bodyguards in black quickly got out.

Ruby recognized them. They were the ones who tried to take her back outside the market last time.

Her heart alarmed, she turned to run.

The two bodyguards did not chase her, probably knowing that even if they did, they wouldn't catch her. If she hid back in the villa area, the security guards wouldn't let them in.

They pulled a child out of the car, and Peter's loud crying stopped Ruby in her tracks. She turned back and saw one of the bodyguards holding Peter. Her eyes widened in anger, and she understood everything.

"Shameless!"

She didn't expect her parents to kidnap Peter to force her to comply.

The bodyguard looked at her coldly, "Ms. Adams, you can't blame us. We're just following orders. As long as you come with us, we won't harm the child."

Ruby's eyes were red with anger, glaring at them, "Take Peter back, and I'll go with you."

"Ms. Adams, come back to the Adams villa with us first, and we'll naturally return the child. Otherwise, he will become a missing person," the other bodyguard said fiercely.

Ruby bit her lip. She knew that if she went with them, she would be forced to marry into the Walker Family. No, she had to stall for time. Donovan should be out soon. "How do I know you'll keep your word?"

The bodyguard saw through her stalling tactics. "Ms. Adams, please get in the car. If we waste any more time, Mr. Adams will hold us accountable, and we can't afford that."

With that, the man viciously squeezed Peter's neck. Peter's crying stopped immediately, his cheeks turning red as he struggled in the bodyguard's grip.

Ruby was almost driven mad with anger, "Don't hurt him. Fine, I'll get in the car. Just don't hurt him."

She walked over slowly, each step feeling like she was walking on the edge of a knife. She hoped Donovan would come out quickly, but just as she was roughly pushed into the car by the bodyguard, she saw a black Bentley drive out.

She was about to shout when the quick-handed bodyguard struck her neck, and she blacked out.

Donovan's car drove past the gray Volkswagen. He glanced over but didn't suspect anything and quickly drove away.

The bodyguards hurriedly got into the car, telling the driver to start the car immediately and speed away. The car's wheels crushed Ruby's phone, shattering it to pieces.

Donovan drove slowly, looking at both sides of the road. Not seeing Ruby, he put on his Bluetooth headset and called her.

"Sorry, the number you dialed is turned off..."

Donovan frowned and called again, but it still went to voicemail. His sense of foreboding grew stronger.

At that moment, he received a WhatsApp message from Phoebe. He pulled over to the

side of the road, read Edmund's information, and turned back.

He drove slowly, not missing anyone on the roadside.

He had told Ruby to wait for him. Given her current obedience to him, she wouldn't run off or turn off her phone.

Unless something had happened to her!

Donovan suddenly saw a shattered phone on the roadside. The phone case had a photo of Ruby and Ethan. He stopped the car, got out, and picked up the phone.

The phone was completely shattered, likely dropped when she was taken away.

He gritted his teeth, a fierce look in his eyes. Whoever dared to harm Ruby would soon find out just how bold they really were!

Ruby slowly woke up, opening her eyes to find herself in an unfamiliar place. She sat up quickly, feeling a sharp pain in her neck, and gasped.

The bedroom door suddenly opened, and a group of people came in. Leading them was Nancy, who smiled kindly when she saw Ruby awake.

"Ruby, you're awake. Good, let them do your makeup and change your clothes," Nancy said with a beaming smile.

Ruby felt nauseous looking at Nancy's smiling face. She remembered how Nancy had humiliated her, calling her child illegitimate and kicking her out of the house.noveldrama

She also remembered how they had tried to ruin her life.

Whenever she found a decent job, they would sabotage it, getting her fired. It was a miracle she had survived in Kedora all these years.

"Where's Peter? Let him go!" Ruby said coldly, staring at Nancy.

Nancy smiled warmly, "As long as you behave and marry into the Walker Family, we won't harm him. Don't worry."

Ruby gritted her teeth, "Mom, why are you doing this to me? Edmund is not a good person. His ex-wife was beaten to death by him. How can you let me marry such a man and be at peace with it?"

"Ruby, only he can save the Adams Group now. I don't want to sacrifice you, but we have no choice. If our family goes bankrupt, how will we live? Consider it repaying us for raising you," Nancy said earnestly.

Ruby's eyes reddened, and she laughed bitterly, "We can always make more money. Even if we can't be rich, as long as we have enough to get by, we can start over." "That's easy for you to say. Why should we give up this shortcut?" Nancy's face changed.

She was used to a comfortable life and couldn't bear the thought of living in poverty.

Ruby felt hopeless, knowing she couldn't persuade Nancy. She felt a deep sadness, realizing that in her parents' eyes, her happiness was less important than their wealth.
