Chapter 494
A few days later, another case involving Jacobson Corporation went to trial.
Stephen had flown to Sableton early that morning to attend an important international business summit. The earliest he would be able to return to Rivertown was the following afternoon, which meant he could not attend the hearing with Tessa.
Tessa, highly capable and thoroughly prepared, walked out of the courthouse feeling confident and refreshed after the session.
She glanced at the time. It was currently 11:30 am. Stephen was probably busy at the moment.
She missed him and wanted to call him to hear his voice, but she held back. She did not want to interrupt him while he was working.
Today, she had taken the Porsche Panamera, the most discreet and modest of the cars in her garage. Though still a luxury vehicle, it didn't draw too much attention.
Wynn was behind the wheel as usual.
Half an hour later, they were nearing the law firm. The stretch of road just outside the building was notoriously congested most times. At the height of the lunchtime rush, traffic had come to a complete standstill.
The white Porsche Panamera was stuck in the long line of cars, inching forward at a snail's pace.
Suddenly, an elderly man appeared out of nowhere and collapsed directly in front of Tessa's car.
With no way to move forward, Tessa had no choice but to step out and check on him.
Just as she reached for the door, she paused and turned to Wynn. "Is the dashcam on?"
"It is."
After a brief moment of thought, Tessa added, "Come with me. Bring your phone and start recording."
"Got it."
Tessa stepped out to assess the situation.
The elderly man had gray hair and looked to be around 70 to 80 years old. He was emaciated, with sallow skin and sunken cheeks.
His eyes were shut, and he let out pained groans, clearly in distress. It did not look like a setup.
Tessa did not dare to help him up on her own. She was afraid of accidentally worsening his condition.
She immediately called emergency services. The ambulance arrived promptly after. Tessa and Wynn went with him to the hospital.
The doctors managed to stabilize the man. He had suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. Fortunately, he had been brought to the hospital in time. Any later and he would not have made it.
Before long, the man's family arrived at the hospital. There were three of them, a couple in their 50s and a young man in his 20s.
The man leading them was the old man's son. At first, he spoke kindly.
"Thank you for bringing my father to the hospital. Miss, would you mind if we spoke somewhere else? It's noisy in here," he said to Tessa with a pleasant smile on his face.
Tessa was curious to see what he was up to, so she nodded. "Alright."
The woman and the younger man behind him said nothing.
Once the three of them left thenoveldrama
hospital building and reached annet
open area outside, Tessa discreetly scanned her surroundings. There were no surveillance cameras.
She pulled out her phone and started audio recording.
Outside, the man dropped his friendly act and revealed his true intentions.
What do you think?
