At the hospital cafeteria, after Laura decided to stay a bit longer, she and Celeste were walking toward the room where Serenity was. As they passed by one of the consultation rooms, Laura came face to face with Adrian.

She was surprised to see him. The young man was on crutches, his left foot in a splint. He could barely manage between his studies and the crutches.

Laura couldn't just ignore the scene, so she walked over to him.

"Adrian..." said Laura, a little shyly.

Celeste was a bit intrigued but decided to wait. It was clear she didn't know who he was. Laura rarely talked about her personal life, so she figured he was just some acquaintance.

"Laura... Oh! Sorry, I didn't expect to see you here, especially in such a terrible situation..." said Adrian, a bit embarrassed.

"What happened to you?" asked Laura, kind of confused.

"You want the short version or the long and boring one?" Adrian asked, trying to sound calm.

"Adrian! I want the truth!" said Laura, even more curious.

"Well... We haven't seen each other, so I guess the short version is easier," said Adrian, giving in.

"Alright, wanna grab a coffee? Need help with your papers?" Laura offered, taking in the scene in front of her.

"I just need help putting them in my backpack..." said Adrian, showing her the bag beside him.

"Okay, let's see... Give me your backpack," said Laura, getting closer to him.

Once Laura took the backpack, she slung it over her shoulder, then quickly walked over to Celeste and said:

"Celeste, can I leave you for a bit? I'm gonna talk to Adrian. He's Adele's father, and from what I can see, I think he's not doing so well..." she said, clearly worried.

"Are you gonna be okay?" Celeste asked, a little hesitant.

"Yeah! Don't worry. I've talked to him before, it's all fine..." said Laura calmly, trying to reassure her.

"Alright, but if anything happens, you can call me..." said Celeste, still a bit unsure. "Yes... Thank you so much!" said Laura as she walked back over to Adrian.

Celeste could only watch as Laura and Adrian walked toward the hospital cafeteria. Laura helped Adrian sit down once they got to a small table.

Celeste headed back to the room where Serenity was. When she got there, she saw Alden was already with the new mom.

"Celeste! My dad's on his way. Actually, he asked me to tell you to wait for him here," said Alden when he saw his dad's partner arrive.

Celeste nodded. She wanted to see the baby, but they'd already taken her to the nursery. The baby had had enough visitors for one day.

Back in the hospital cafeteria, Laura and Adrian were waiting for their coffee. In the meantime, Laura had helped Adrian get comfortable in the small chair.

"Alright, now can you tell me what happened?" Laura asked, still really curious.

"Well, what I can tell you is that I separated from my wife..." said Adrian, straight to the point.

Laura was shocked to hear that.

"I'm so sorry!" she said, genuinely.

"Why are you sorry?" Adrian asked, a little puzzled.

"What do you mean why? I guess a breakup must be kind of painful..."noveldrama

"Well, Laura, we both know that relationship was going nowhere. Plus, Alice isn't exactly the easiest person to be with," Adrian said, not holding back.

"She must've had something for you to decide to marry her... Don't you think?"

"Laura... There are marriages of convenience in this world. She liked me, told her parents she wanted me, and well..."

"And?"

"Well, my parents ended up selling me to the highest bidder...

Something like that. It was a marriage of convenience. I'm not saying it was all bad-I tried to do my part-but honestly..."

"Yeah..."

"Honestly, that relationship wasn't going anywhere. Alice is super controlling and has major anger issues... So yeah, we've been

"Oh! I see. So, you told me you left her, but what happened? Why are you on crutches?" Laura asked, even more interested.

"Well, let's just say my dear wife didn't take the news very well. She thinks that having me beaten up will somehow make me want to come back home..." Adrian said, totally calm.

"Adrian! That's a crime. She can't hurt you! You're her husband! I thought she only acted like that with weak girls like me?" said Laura, clearly upset.

"You need to get help. Find a good lawyer, get a restraining order or something. No one should be forced to stay with someone," said Laura, still shocked by what she'd just heard.
