Basil went quiet for a moment.

He would've been more than happy to savor his apprentice's cooking all to himself, flaunting it in front of those old men.

But if that meant they'd start blaming Charmaine....

With a dismissive wave, he decided to take a wider perspective. "Forget it. It's the holidays. You might as well send some to them, too."

Charmaine was taken aback. “Really?"

Without a second thought, Basil replied, "Yes, send it!"

"Alright, I'll do it your way!" Charmaine said, gently coaxing the old man into a lighter mood.

They continued chatting, shifting to hospital matters. Charmaine hadn't officially resigned yet. After a thoughtful pause, Basil spoke again, "If you're too shy to ask, I'll talk to the director for you."

Charmaine furrowed her brow slightly. "I want to keep going for a little longer. I start my university internship in March, and I have some time before I need to begin, so I can keep seeing patients until then.

“I didn't think about it before, but seeing them come in so worried and leaving with smiles ... it feels really nice."

That feeling was new-something she had never experienced in either of her lifetimes.

Although her words stumbled a bit, they made Basil smile quietly.

He didn't say much, just offering reassurance. "Alright, do what feels right. Whatever you choose to do, I'll support it!"

Charmaine smiled softly. "Thank you, Master Field!"

When she left the bathroom, Charmaine saw that Emyr had arrived.

The spacious suite, when it was just Celeste and her, had felt roomy enough for a bit of fun.

But as soon as Emyr walked in, the entire room felt smaller. Celeste even retreated to the corner by the window, only relaxing when Charmaine came out.

"Charmaine, Mr. Emyr is here to see you!"

That was when Charmaine noticed Emyr was wearing the birthday gift she had given him. His tie was perfectly knotted, and when he looked at her, his eyes conveyed so much more...

Charmaine blinked, still not catching on right away. She answered in a matter-of- fact way, "Well, you've seen me, now you can go. We're heading out for some fun."

Her response clearly disappointed Emyr.

He laughed, though with a touch of frustration, pulling her hand and squeezing it gently, muttering under his breath, "You heartless little thing."

"Mm?" Charmaine was confused, but before she could ask more, Emyr had already let go of her hand and left.

Once he was gone, Celeste stared at Charmaine with wide eyes, like her entire world had just shifted.

“I can't believe it! I never thought that between you and Mr. Emyr, you'd be the clueless one!"

"What?"

"You still don't get it?"

Celeste now felt bad for Emyr. "Mr. Emyr was obviously hinting that he misses you! I thought you were going to kiss him or at least give him a hug! But instead...

Charmaine froze for a moment, then slowly began to understand.

She fell silent, then pulled out her phone and texted Emyr.

"Were you trying to say you missed me?"

Emyr replied, "What do you think?"

No wonder he looked so down earlier.

Charmaine wrote back, "But we saw each other just last night!"

Emyr replied, "We didn't see each other earlier today."

Those simple words made Charmaine's cheeks heat up.

As Emyr headed for the parking lot, the others had been waiting for quite a while.

Not just Kane and the others, but also several long-time business partners and board members from other companies.

When they saw Emyr, they were in awe.
