Chapter 1381 - 1305: Toughness
Chapter 1381: Chapter 1305: Toughness
Ni Cha returned to the office, first gathering his men, then calling a few trusted aides, instructing them to discreetly prepare equipment.
Ni Cha took out a backup phone and sent a mass message to those listed under "Young Operatives" in his contacts: [Something’s up today. If you’re willing to join, I’ll be in the office until 10 tonight.]
Ni Cha reviewed the message twice before sending it out.
The "Young Operatives" category included young people who had actively aligned themselves with him in recent years. Normally, Ni Cha didn’t have much use for them; there were only so many positions and projects, those could be divided, and his direct subordinates had already taken them.
Even if he had his eye on a young man, he couldn’t suddenly promote them, otherwise, his subordinates would ostracize them. Of course, that’s the policing style in Dama.
However, this time was different. This time, it was a life-and-death struggle.
Niyuman had years of military experience. He was tall and strong, capable of overpowering a grown man and making it look like a "suicide," even breaking ribs in the process.
He was armed, and whether he had assistance and equipment was uncertain, but it was confirmed he had at least one accomplice. Ni Cha’s orders were to capture him alive...
That basically meant risking lives to get the job done.
Even with bulletproof vests and helmets stored in the warehouse, anyone who’s been in combat knows how dangerous a firefight gets, especially indoors where bullets bounce off concrete and explode unpredictably, deadly yet undetectable.
If all Niyuman had was a handgun and regular bullets, that would be manageable. But he was the driver for another faction’s leader, and now also served as an assassin.
Therefore, if Niyuman wanted, he could certainly get armor-piercing rounds, .38 or even .45 caliber handguns were within reach, and still more fearsome was a submachine gun, especially one powerful enough to pierce soft armor. Theoretically, whether it’s an MP7 or a Scorpion able to penetrate IIIA level armor, Niyuman was likely to have them.
With such weapons, vests without ceramic plates would be mere toys. This meant even if Ni Cha donned level III or IV vests, areas like shoulders, necks, thighs would still depend on pure luck.
Faced with such an enemy, the correct approach should be artillery bombing, at least sniping, at worst, a fusillade.
Scenes in movies where pistols shoot against assault rifles simply don’t happen in reality; those weapons have a generational gap.
But they were strictly ordered to leave Niyuman alive.
Thinking about it made Ni Cha terrified. He had risked his life in his youth, but now, he couldn’t afford to, nor was willing.
He figured his direct subordinates felt similarly.
All Ni Cha could think of was using the young operatives to get things done.
As for engaging SWAT or special forces, the Chief didn’t suggest it, naturally because he had reasons. It wasn’t a suitable course.
Nobody could tell what kind of connections Pikami had, much like Hassan, people with unusual ties weren’t surprising. It was even unclear if young operatives might draw near to Pikami for grand future prospects, risking everything just to inform him of such a message.
Ding.
Ni Cha’s phone pinged, he swiftly glanced at it; it was a reply from a "Young Operative": [Got it, heading over now, will arrive within an hour.]
Ni Cha couldn’t help but smile, contemplating that for being the first to respond, he deserved major recognition and reward afterward.
At least a post of Sergeant or Senior Sergeant, if the Chief was willing to consent.
Ding.
Ding...
Ni Cha’s phone started ringing frequently.
He immediately felt relieved. As long as the young were still willing to trade life for future, all was well. It was frightening if the young started cherishing life too much, then Ni Cha would truly have to go into battle himself!
AM.
Chief Kumar sat in the conference room with Jiang Yuan and others, door and windows shut, watching footage sent from the frontlines.
Most people in the room didn’t know the mission objective. Phones were collected, but as everyone was in law enforcement, spotting Jiang Yuan, they naturally suspected it was related to Hassan’s case, hence each raised their alertness.
For officers, cases related to politics were the most feared, speaking of them in Dama’s police context.
The 100-inch LCD screen soon displayed imagery from the scene. Ni Cha’s face appeared first, then the camera, mounted on the head of a leading officer, began relaying imagery.
"Commence." After saluting and asking, Ni Cha waved and ordered.
Several dozen kilometers away, the Chief put down the receiver, his expression becoming solemn and serious.
Though frequently tasked with various missions, genuinely dangerous ones with direct police involvement were limited. Most police might not actively engage in such missions even after ten years on the force. Instead, forced dangers or chance incidents were more common.
The screen displayed multiple sub-screens concurrently, cameras mounted on the heads of several group leaders.
"Follow Team One. Lock onto Team One." The Chief showed no intention of overseeing action, gathering so many people to watch Ni Cha’s movements only to prepare for his and subsequent promotions. noveldrama
Of course, if the action went extremely awry or strayed significantly, that would be another matter.
"No SWAT called?" Someone noted the detectives all armed ahead, naturally understanding it was dangerous action.
The Chief slightly shook his head, looking around, stating: "Covert operation. All present are my trusted individuals."
All Dama personnel suddenly tensed.
Jiang Yuan merely stiffened his face; the rest, lacking translation, looked bewildered.
Yet, everyone probably guessed the dialogue’s content.
The Chief turned, focusing on the screen.
The shaky footage seemed poor in quality, faces barely recognizable beyond a few meters, sound dominated by noise, mostly the rustling of clothing as they walked.
No one spoke.
Scene silent, spectating from the conference room, the crowd remained mute.
The silence weighed down by no sacred laws, but pure human lives.
Including Jiang Yuan, those somewhat knowledgeable in urban combat understood that front ranks wielding shields, though armed to the teeth, were still risking lives to blaze a trail.
Poof...
A soft sound, starkly clear in the night.
Before anyone reacted, a burst of red light enveloped the screen and surroundings.
Boom...
A muffled explosion shook and heightened chaos.
"What happened? Team One, Team One?" Maintaining quiet earlier, Ni Cha instantly flew into a frenzy.
In the conference room, the Chief and others immediately stood up.
"It’s a decoy mine," someone whispered, the shock equaled that of the explosion.
Even Ni Cha, though long prepared for a tough battle, honestly didn’t anticipate it being this demanding!
