Chapter 1383: Chapter 1307: Aftereffects
Ni Cha briefly reassured the attending officers, then got into the prison van and began interrogating Niyuman.
The subordinates guarding below the prison van were all directly under Ni Cha’s command. Hearing Niyuman’s shouts from inside, they simply looked expressionless into the distance.
The "secret interrogation" that Commissioner Kumar requested would inevitably change form after that decoy mine exploded. According to Ni Cha’s understanding, it meant quickly obtaining results and handling matters before others had time to react.
Ni Cha’s decisiveness allowed Commissioner Kumar to breathe a sigh of relief in the conference room.
Though not the only option, the path Ni Cha chose was a relatively good solution. Most importantly, he did not ask the commissioner a single question, bearing all the pressure and consequences himself.
Looking back at the already turned-off screen, Kumar was unsure if others could guess Ni Cha’s approach. He could not speak a single word on this topic.
Therefore, after much consideration, Kumar slowly spoke up, "Let’s have a meeting and see how to proceed with this case!"
How to proceed with the case depends on the results of Ni Cha’s interrogation. Even for an officer of Kumar’s level, it’s best to have basic evidence to further the case. Thus, even if there’s a bias, it should be wrapped in a legal guise. Of course, this refers to the police officers in Dama and the capitalist judicial system.
Jiang Yuan found a book and read it quietly. The most important thing now was not to contact the outside world to prevent losing Kumar’s control over the situation. So, the key was not to use the phone or leave the conference room. Besides this, the content of the meeting was not important to the Chinese police.
The local police had follow-up tasks, prompting Kumar to slightly reorganize the team and allocate some tasks in advance, especially those not relating to investigation, such as interrogation, judicial contact, and public relations, which were all discussed seriously.
If nothing unexpected happened, these arrangements would be implemented.
No unexpected means no unexpected.
In less than half an hour, Ni Cha’s call came through.
Kumar answered, murmured a few "mm-hmms," then decisively said, "The suspect confessed. It’s confirmed that he’s one of the real culprits in Qikoli’s murder case. At the same time, Niyuman confessed that it was a contract killing, and the mastermind behind it was Pikami..."
As the police chief, Kumar’s explanation wasn’t very clear, but the basic points were apparent.
The detectives in the conference room responded loudly in agreement.
Kumar assigned a few more tasks, then released his subordinates, watching them swarm out like worker bees, before changing his expression to a smile and saying some formal pleasantries to Jiang Yuan and the others.
Though this case may have follow-ups, it’s clearly impossible to pass it on to Jiang Yuan and the others for investigation. In fact, it’s more about the political game around the case, with little investigation left to be done.
In a normal case, a mastermind like Pikami might require various investigations to confirm, but this time Jiang Yuan’s involvement wasn’t necessary.
"God Jiang, take a day off, and when we’re less busy here, feel free to choose any case!" Kumar sent the others away, then returned to confirm the next case with Jiang Yuan and Huang Qiangmin.
Jiang Yuan looked at Huang Qiangmin and agreed.
Huang Qiangmin said, "If we’re staying here long, we’ll need you to issue an official letter." noveldrama
"That’s no problem," Kumar agreed without hesitation.
"If possible, it would be best to have a few commendations, naming names with government-issued letters of thanks," Huang Qiangmin straightforwardly emphasized.
"No problem, anything we can do, we will follow your arrangements," Kumar agreed very readily.
As long as he confirmed that Jiang Yuan and the others could stay, Kumar left satisfied.
Huang Qiangmin turned back, shrugged, "No choice, we agreed with them, we must handle at least another case before we can leave. I’ll talk to Mr. Chu and Mr. Cui later, and we’ll communicate."
"Datuk’s aftermath is quite significant," Jiang Yuan knew why. After all, it was because he received the title, and the others were staying in Dama with him.
Huang Qiangmin chuckled, waved his hand, "Going abroad for tourism is such a good thing, as long as it’s not dangerous, you won’t even get a chance, and now our allowances are all covered by the department, everyone gets full attendance subsidies, and the accumulated time enough to offset aid to Xinjiang and Tibet, there’s nothing to be dissatisfied with. Mainly, the province can’t stand it, they feel at a loss when you’re not solving cases back in the province."
Liu Jinghui laughed again, "The province is just thinking about it, it’s the localities that are really anxious."
"With you gone too, they can’t even summon people, right?"
"There’s no big case recently, so they don’t need us. We’ve been effective in clearing backlog cases over the past two years. Previously these cases took a lot of manpower, involving the most experienced officers, but now many of them have been freed up, handling current cases is much easier."
"That’s true for the level of the Detective Squad, but further down the line, it’s just as exhausting."
Huang Qiangmin and Liu Jinghui came from different professional backgrounds. Although their levels might be similar now, Huang Qiangmin climbed up from the grassroots, through hardship. Liu Jinghui was actually a prodigy. Even though the ’King of Deduction’s’ reasoning wasn’t as popular now, a decade ago, especially twenty years ago when Liu Jinghui started, he learned from the most famous masters and made a name for himself young, patrolling various areas with the provincial department’s credentials.
In some ways, Liu Jinghui was the predecessor of Jiang Yuan, though without Jiang’s high-solving rate or current strength. But in the ’90s when Liu Jinghui started, he was like a celestial presence wherever he went.
It’s well-known that the provincial department is actually an administrative body, primarily staffed with administrative personnel, very few are allotted to criminal investigation.
And over a decade ago, carrying the provincial department’s credentials on the streets was not much different from or sometimes even better than carrying your family belongings like Jiang Yuan does now.
Huang Qiangmin and Liu Jinghui exchanged a few mutual compliments and soon got tired.
Mu Zhiyang handed them a bottle of water, "It’s good to have a rest, as long as we don’t get caught up in their political struggles."
"That’s quite true," Huang Qiangmin nodded in agreement.
As they spoke, Jiang Yuan’s phone rang.
"It’s Ni Cha," Jiang Yuan glanced at the phone, directly turned on the speaker.
Ni Cha’s voice came through, "God Jiang, we’ve discovered another body. Can you come over now?"
"Whose body?" Jiang Yuan looked at Huang Qiangmin and others, paused slightly, and asked, "Pikami?"
"If it were him, it would be simpler," Ni Cha sighed, "It’s a congressman. The home is on the 12th floor; the killer rappelled from the top of the 15th-floor, broke in through the window, slit the congressman’s throat with a knife, and took the congressman’s phone and everything from the safe."
