Chapter 184: Human Heart
Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Human Heart
"Never trust someone too much, or you’ll definitely encounter problems down the road. So, Lin Wenyan knew I wouldn’t be in danger, and his arrangements make sense to me."
She wouldn’t trust people casually, but at the same time, she wouldn’t let herself be bullied without reason.
In fact, Assistant Li couldn’t see any connection between these things, but seeing Ji Yu’s confidence, he really didn’t know what to say and chose to stay silent.
Ji Yu looked at him and immediately knew he was still considering whether this matter was true or not.
"You don’t have to worry about whether it’s true or not. Lin Wenyan will contact me once he learns about it. You don’t need to tell Gu Qixiao either."
This issue wouldn’t affect their collaboration.
Minor things like this are best left alone.
It turned out Ji Yu was right.
Lin Wenyan contacted Ji Yu the very next day, and he didn’t appear angry in the slightest.
"Doctor Ji really takes matters seriously. That said, I was indeed wrong here. I didn’t tie up loose ends properly back then, and I appreciate the time you helped me gain."
He spoke calmly and confidently, without looking guilty in the slightest.
Ji Yu was already used to this kind of behavior, but she was also curious about what was going on with him.
"You’ve always known how seriously I take things. Why didn’t you tell me beforehand and coordinate?"
"I wanted to discuss it with you, but isn’t there that person beside you?" Lin Wenyan sounded helpless; sometimes he didn’t know how to describe Gu Qixiao.
Perhaps "lunatic" would be the most fitting term.
"In front of you, sure, he’s calm enough and accommodating. But in front of me, that’s not the case."
It felt like he was ready to fight at any moment. Fortunately, Lin Wenyan’s arrangements had been well-timed recently, so he hadn’t been caught yet.
"If Gu Qixiao finds out about this, I’ll probably wind up in serious trouble."
Things like this definitely required a bit of caution.
Ji Yu understood such situations and, upon hearing this, thought Gu Qixiao actually seemed somewhat adorable.
"He’s not as terrible as you think. He’s just particularly stubborn about matters involving me. I know his intentions and all the efforts he’s been making recently."
Lin Wenyan could only shut up after hearing this. After all, mentioning such things in front of a lovey-dovey couple would inevitably make him look bad.
He didn’t understand this type of scenario.
And, of course, he wouldn’t try such arrangements again, as they clearly hadn’t worked well.
Ji Yu didn’t know what to say next.
Perhaps it was Lin Wenyan’s obvious disdain that made her pause.
"Neither of us owes the other anything for this incident. There’s no need to dwell on it going forward. I know you’re a straightforward person."
Over the recent weeks, he’d come to understand Ji Yu’s personality quite well, so he decided to lay things out clearly.
Ji Yu raised an eyebrow, her expression neutral. "Are you trying to suggest I shouldn’t tell Gu Qixiao?"
If Gu Qixiao learned about this, there’d surely be trouble. Lin Wenyan just wanted to live peacefully for a while, especially after gaining access to such valuable resources.
"Let’s just consider this as me owing you one."
Finally, Ji Yu was satisfied.
Still, she didn’t have the time to keep talking about it. "I promise I won’t. Now I have things to deal with on his end. I won’t be joining you for dinner tonight."
Seeing how hurried she looked, Lin Wenyan didn’t say anything else.
He merely found it puzzling how she always seemed so busy, without ever showing what she was occupied with.
In truth, Ji Yu was caught up in handling matters between Ji Yuanzhou and Feng Qinqin.
She couldn’t understand how two people who clearly liked each other had ended up in such a situation.
Originally, Feng Qinqin intended to keep the matter hidden from Ji Yu, but since Ji Yu had already arrived, she figured Ji Yu likely knew the truth.
"I’m sorry, Yuyu. I initially planned to keep this under wraps for now."
Ji Yu didn’t see why such a thing should be kept secret. "Don’t you think this is wrong? What’s going on with you and my brother?"
Both of them acted so melodramatic, yet neither seemed willing to talk—was this supposed to help their relationship?
Speaking of Ji Yuanzhou, her expression turned bitter. "I know Ji Yuanzhou doesn’t like me. I don’t want to keep struggling anymore. Things have reached this point; we might as well go our separate ways."
Dragging this on was doing neither of them any good.
Ji Yu felt helpless, believing the situation needed some time to work itself out.
But it simply wouldn’t resolve unless the two of them started talking.
"Come on, let’s sit down and talk it out. I want to know what’s really going on—do you both like each other or not? Why can’t you just speak plainly when you meet?"
Everyone sulking secretly as though things were hopeless—it’s as if they were pretending this was the worst situation possible. noveldrama
They had the chance to explain everything, but instead clammed up. Were they planning to put on some kind of show?
"I don’t know what to say." Feng Qinqin seemed reluctant to meet with Ji Yuanzhou. Whenever they saw each other, it always went the same way, and she had grown tired of it all.
"Yuyu, please don’t make me keep struggling. I’ve already given up. This situation is just too painful for me. He doesn’t like me, and I don’t like him anymore."
If someone doesn’t love you, no matter how much you say, it won’t make a difference.
Ji Yu found the whole thing even harder to understand. "Wait a minute, something doesn’t seem right. My brother was barely eating or sleeping after hearing about your engagement. If that’s not love, what is it?"
This didn’t add up.
From the start, everything about this situation was different from what they imagined.
Perhaps, as an outsider, Ji Yu saw things more clearly than they did.
"You’re overthinking everything. Right now, nothing’s settled. You two need to sit down and talk properly. I refuse to believe there’s no solution."
She wouldn’t accept such an outcome. And besides, what had they talked about the last time they met? Ji Yu had arranged for them to meet simply so that they could share their feelings.
Feng Qinqin had no choice but to go with her and see for herself what would happen.
Deep down, she still had hope. Why else would she agree to meet him?
Meanwhile, Ji Yu didn’t idle; when arranging for Ji Yuanzhou to meet, she didn’t forget to lay out how bad things were.
"[Brother, I need to talk to you about this. Qinqin’s fiancé is awful—he keeps belittling her.]"
What do you think?
