Chapter 648
Chapter 648:
Susanna’s plight was undeniable—she was desperate to survive. But she had betrayed the memory of her fellow volunteers who had died during the drug trials, falling prey to Eric and Sheri’s manipulative lies. Though she played the part of an innocent victim in front of Khloe, she had become an accomplice.
A moment of silence stretched as despair filled Susanna’s chest, constricting her breaths under its oppressive weight. She stared at Khloe, her expression tangled with conflicting emotions. A small part of her hoped that Khloe was bluffing.
But Khloe remained calm, unyielding, and detached. There would be no help forthcoming.
Finally, Susanna’s eyes darkened, her despair morphing into something far more sinister. She let out a bitter, enraged laugh.
“Khloe, you’re destroying me. If I can’t live, neither will you!”
With a sudden, violent motion, she produced a small knife and aimed to slash her own arm with unrelenting madness.
“If I die, you’ll die too.”
If Khloe came into contact with her blood, it would be fatal. It might have been a cunning plan, but Susanna never got the chance to carry it out. The knife barely left her hand before the sharp crack of a gunshot echoed in the room.
A single bullet pierced Susanna’s chest.
Her eyes widened, frozen in terror and disbelief as she collapsed lifelessly.
Henrik, who had been sitting silently until then, now held a pistol. His expression remained cold, as if entirely unaffected by the shot he had just fired. His voice carried a biting chill.

“You’re nothing but a pathetic waste. Even when death stares you in the face, you still fail to comprehend your place.”
Susanna’s dying eyes shifted to Henrik, her lips curling into a final, desperate curse.
“Khloe, I’ll haunt you even in death.”
Eric had the Watson family behind him, and Sheri had the support of the Dayton family. Susanna wouldn’t dare cross either of them, let alone provoke Henrik, whose ruthlessness was well-known. But Khloe was a different story. She was just the daughter cast out by the Evans family.
Susanna believed she could intimidate Khloe with mere threats, assuming that fear alone would be enough to break her. But as Susanna lay there, bleeding out, the curse felt hollow—nothing more than a cruel, ironic mockery.
Khloe’s faint smile flickered. “Arrogant people are always the most delusional. You couldn’t win against me in life, and as a ghost, you’ll fare no better. You’ll be crushed just as easily.”
Turning her attention to Sheri, who now stood pale and visibly shaken, Khloe said, “I’ve heard these threats too many times to count. They’re nothing but empty words. Someone once tried cursing me too. It didn’t work then, and all it did was make her look like a clown.”
Sheri immediately understood that Khloe’s words were directed at her. The weight of defeat pressed heavily on her chest, stealing her composure. Her face turned ashen, and she slumped back into her chair, unable to muster a response.
