Chapter 803: Chapter 791: Marriage Proposal Visit
Following Qiao Jing into the house, Zhan Qipei glanced around and couldn’t help but reminisce about some past memories.
This was his third visit here.
The first time, he was injured and brought back from the cornfield by Qiao Jing, where he underwent a surgery.
The second time, he returned with Qiao Jing; it was then he confirmed that Qiao Jing was the one who had saved him...
As the mealtime approached, Qiao Jing thought for a moment and said to Zhan Qipei, "You sit here for a while, I’ll go prepare a few homemade countryside dishes, and we can eat at home."
She didn’t plan to return the same day on this visit, intending to stay for an extra day or two.
"I’ll help you." Zhan Qipei blurted out.
"No need." Qiao Jing shook her head, "I can handle it myself; it won’t take long."
She planned to make rural specialty dishes, so in this matter, Zhan Qipei wasn’t much help.
"Alright, call me when you need help."
Zhan Qipei said, pointing towards Qiao Jing’s room, "I’ll go check out your room."
Previously, he hadn’t properly explored Qiao Jing’s room, and this time he wanted to take a good look at where she grew up.
Qiao Jing arched her delicate brows, waved her hand, and said, "Go ahead."
Once Zhan Qipei went to the room, Qiao Jing went outside to the kitchen to make food.
She moved quickly, skillfully stir-frying a few dishes and even cooked a pot of meat soup, all ready in about fifteen minutes.
Just as she was about to finish, Auntie Zhang from next door came over.
Auntie Zhang was carrying bags full, even with chickens, ducks, and geese, followed by a chubby, very round young man.
Qiao Jing recognized him; he was Auntie Zhang’s son—Wang Erzhu.
She looked at the uninvited pair with suspicion, "Auntie Zhang, what is this...?"
Auntie Zhang’s face was all smiles, her eyes squinting into slits, shaking the things she brought, "Xiao Jing, I’m here today to propose a match for you!"
Proposing a match?!
Qiao Jing was slightly taken aback, momentarily not reacting, and subconsciously asked, "Propose what?"
"A marriage proposal!" Auntie Zhang tried another approach.
Qiao Jing looked at her with a bewildered expression.
What kind of uncalled-for proposal is this?
Auntie Zhang chuckled, put down what she was carrying, and pulled her son in front of Qiao Jing, saying without a hint of embarrassment, "I’m proposing on behalf of my son Erzhu."
"To be honest, you and my Erzhu are fated. I was thinking of proposing as soon as you returned, and you happened to come back. Isn’t this destiny?"
Even someone as composed as Qiao Jing couldn’t help but twitch her lips at these words.
Ha!
Forcing fate, is it?
Ever since seeing Qiao Jing, Wang Erzhu hadn’t stopped staring at her, nearly drooling from his infatuation.
Qiao Jing furrowed her brows slightly, feeling speechless inside.
She was about to send this mother and son away when Auntie Zhang began to chatter on mindlessly.
"Xiao Jing, our families live so close. You should know our family conditions; let’s not talk about anything else. In the village, we’re considered wealthy, a rich family."
"The house was newly built in the past two years, it’s spacious and comfortable, and my Erzhu is an honest man who cherishes people, definitely a rare good man!"
"To be frank, marrying into our family won’t make you lose anything; you’ll be gaining a huge advantage!"
Qiao Jing initially wanted to reply that she didn’t want such a "huge advantage," and whoever wanted it could have it.
But as the words reached her lips, she suddenly didn’t want to waste time speaking nonsense, so she straightforwardly said, "Take your things back. I’m getting married soon, and the wedding will be held shortly."
She never thought she’d encounter such an outrageous event upon her return!
Hearing Qiao Jing’s words, Auntie Zhang was momentarily stunned, but upon regaining her senses, she thought Qiao Jing was surely brushing her off.
"Xiao Jing, you’re no fun. I came sincerely to propose today, even if you’re shy and need time to consider, you can’t use such an excuse, or else your reputation might be at stake."
Auntie Zhang, with her earnest demeanor, spoke as if she was certain Qiao Jing would agree.
In her eyes, their family’s status in the village was top-notch, and it was always them choosing others, never the reverse!
At this moment, Wang Erzhu, who had been infatuatedly staring at Qiao Jing, finally spoke, "Xiao Jing, I really like you. Marry me; I’ll treat you well."
"See how much my Erzhu cares for you? If you marry him, we won’t let you suffer."
The mother and son duo took turns speaking, not giving Qiao Jing any chance to respond.
"Marriage talk? What are you talking about?"
Zhan Qipei frowned deeply, striding out of the room.
Long legs taking steps quickly, he reached Qiao Jing’s side in the blink of an eye, then reached out and wrapped her in his arms.
Embracing Qiao Jing, he raised his eyes coldly, unhappily glaring at Auntie Zhang and her son opposite.
Initially, he just wanted to check if Qiao Jing needed help; as he reached the door, he heard those two asking Qiao Jing to marry into their family!
Being apart from Qiao Jing for just a little while, and someone is already proposing marriage?!
This made him realize he couldn’t let Qiao Jing out of his sight easily!
Seeing a man suddenly hugging Qiao Jing, Auntie Zhang frowned instantly, "Xiao Jing, who is he? What’s the meaning of this hugging?"
"He is..."
Qiao Jing had just begun to speak when she was interrupted by Zhan Qipei’s voice.
"I’m her husband; what problem is there with a husband and wife hugging?"
"Husband?"
Auntie Zhang paused for a moment, then, recalling Qiao Jing’s earlier words, dismissively said, "You haven’t even held a wedding yet. That doesn’t count as officially married."
Then she turned to Qiao Jing, advising, "Xiao Jing, let me tell you, a handsome man is useless, you can’t live on looks. For marriage, you should choose my Erzhu. He’s our only son, and the family assets are all his. If you marry him, you’ll surely live in comfort..."
As Auntie Zhang spoke, Zhan Qipei’s face turned darker and darker, as black as the bottom of a pot.
He felt incredibly insulted!
This old lady compared him to her son, who looked like a ball! noveldrama
And said he was not as good as that ball!!!
What do you think?
