Chapter 168: The Problems Detected
Chapter 168: Chapter 168: The Problems Detected
After pausing for a moment and seeing Yan Kai remain silent, Gu Junming continued, "He paid tens of thousands, supposedly to help that poor family. Isn’t tens of thousands too much? I think he’s just making excuses. And considering so many people, the quick operations, and the transportation provided, I don’t believe it’s just an isolated case."
Yan Kai became alert, "Do you mean there’s a gang involved?"
Gu Junming said, "When we arrested these people, I specifically looked at their testimony. The ones below like Ding Quan, I found that none of them knew much, but the ones higher up clearly had been doing this often. And when we chased the children to a place, the villagers even confronted us with daggers, clearly feeling untouchable. We can’t cover up just because that person is a relative of a leader, or else many families’ children will suffer."
Sun Chan silently nodded in agreement; it was exactly like this. In her past life, she seemed to have heard about how many people stole children from remote villages, and these children were bought by some people with money.
"Are these children being sent to those families in the South without good kids?"
Sun Chan said, "I’ve heard that some are relatively lucky and can go to good families, even be adopted abroad, but most children suffer greatly. Some say people buy children specifically to teach them to steal, rob, and commit crimes. Some had their legs broken and were made into beggars, performers, and some were used for organ transplantation. Some girls grew up and fell into hell."
Such a scene persisted even until the time she was about to die, with not much improvement; it was still frequently said that such situations occurred in remote villages, scaring villagers so much they didn’t even dare to send their children to school.
Gu Junming glanced at Sun Chan, and Sun Chan said, "Did I say something excessive? I’m just a bit worried." She had heard that a very smart child from a neighboring village was abducted, and years later became deformed while begging in the city. Although pitiable, his parents no longer recognized him. They acted like he was dead.
"You might be right," Gu Junming said. "Our decisions could affect many people, so we can’t act recklessly."
Yan Kai initially thought it was just a matter of giving face and making a statement, but he didn’t expect it to be so serious!
Thinking it over, Yan Kai said, "Don’t misunderstand me; I’m not asking you to be partial. If it’s that serious, we should report it to the higher-ups. Hopefully, it’s all a misunderstanding, but if something does come up related to this person, we can’t just ignore it."
"Okay, let’s go together tomorrow."
With that, the two didn’t have the mood to talk anymore and simply parted ways.
Returning to the house, Sun Chan found the room clean, knowing it was Guihua and Yang Liu who often helped out.
Sun Chan started the stove, made some food, and ate with Gu Junming, then simply settled down to sleep, naturally still in separate rooms.
The two were exhausted from several days of hard work and could finally sleep well, resting soundly.
The next day early, Gu Junming and Yan Kai went to see the leadership.
The leader, hearing such speculation, took it seriously but did not hastily act: "That relative is Mr. Yang’s nephew."
"Mr. Yang? The one transferred from Beijing?"
"That’s right. He’s well-connected; without solid evidence, offending him could be troublesome. I think you should try to find more evidence."
Yan Kai remained silent, thinking, it’s really a troublesome matter!
Gu Junming asked, "Where is this person right now?"
"Currently, he’s at Mr. Yang’s home," Yan Kai said. "Probably worried about being caught, so he’s found someone to protect him."
The group hesitated. They couldn’t just go and arrest someone, could they?
Gu Junming said, "Then let’s go have a look. It’s the New Year, and we should visit the elders."
The leader’s eyes lit up, "Exactly! I happened to study with him before, I’ll go with you! I should have some influence, right?"
Gu Junming smiled, and the leader’s face turned serious, "What? Worried I’ll take credit from you?"
Yan Kai said, "Leader, you misunderstand us. We’re all worried that if there truly is an issue, then fine, but if there isn’t, you’ll be in the same boat with us, and offending Mr. Yang could mean trouble, like getting penalized or facing retaliation."
"Nonsense! We’re only visiting for New Year; we’re not saying we’re doing anything. There can’t be that much to it. Get ready, let’s go. Oh, grab something from the room next to mine, nothing too expensive."
Yan Kai and Gu Junming immediately stood to salute.
Both knew clearly that this time the risks were high; without evidence, they couldn’t just arrest anyone.
Sun Chan had already gone to the inn, then saw Yang Liu outside sweeping snow. Seeing Sun Chan returning, she waved joyfully.
"You’re back?"
Yang Liu was wearing a green cotton jacket and a white scarf, giving off a vibrant feel, making her skin appear even fairer. After the New Year, she had grown into a young lady.
"Did you know? It’s us who helped sell your fruits, and business was great! I’ll give you the accounts later."
Sun Chan laughed, "That’s great! Thank you!"
"Just a thank you verbally? No real action?" Yang Liu laughed.
Sun Chan jokingly took her broom, "I’ll help you sweep the snow!"
"No! I want you to cook me a delicious meal today. I love your dishes the most."
"Alright then." Sun Chan stood there chatting with her, and then Guihua came out too. She had been resting for several days; today was her first day back at work. Seeing Sun Chan also made her happy, and she joined in their conversation, laughing a bit.
"Han Dong came yesterday and left when he saw you weren’t here," Guihua laughed.
Sun Chan nodded, "Really? Is he busy over the New Year?" noveldrama
"Probably busy? I didn’t ask. He dashed off like a monkey when he saw you weren’t there."
Yang Liu, hearing Han Dong’s name, felt a bit disappointed. Last time, running into Han Dong, her heart had been set on him, but Han Dong evidently had no intention towards her, caring more about Sun Chan. He came, heard Sun Chan wasn’t there, and turned to leave.
Yang Liu felt a bit sad, but didn’t dare show it.
After all, in such matters, girls should be a bit reserved.
Sun Chan was oblivious, but Guihua could see clearly and found a chance to pull her aside, whispering, "When will you talk to Han Dong? If it’s not going to work out, it’s better early before Yang Liu falls too deep. Matters of the heart, who can really say?"
Sun Chan nodded, "Even I’m not sure about Han Dong’s feelings."
"You really don’t know?"
"Really don’t know."
Guihua wanted to make a few jokes, but considering Sun Chan was already engaged, she decided against it. Besides, it wouldn’t be good if Yang Liu found out.
What do you think?
