Rebirth: Solely Cherished by the Devoted Commander

Chapter 172 Someone Wants to Frame

Chapter 172: Chapter 172 Someone Wants to Frame

Sun Chan had been selling fruit all afternoon. As darkness gradually fell outside, she packed up her things and prepared to leave.

She was just considering whether she should head back without waiting for Gu Junming, when she saw him pushing the door open and walking in.

Yang Liu quickly greeted him, "You’re back? It looks like it’s snowing outside!" Today was her shift; Guihua had gone home to look after her child.

"Yes, the wind is strong." Gu Junming stomped his feet to shake off the snow from his shoes, then called to Sun Chan, "Let’s go, I’ll take you home."

Sun Chan agreed and walked over with a smile. She handed her bag to Gu Junming and reached out to wrap her arms around his, as the ground was too slippery to walk easily.

Gu Junming teased, "Are you scared?"

"Yeah, isn’t it painful to fall?" noveldrama

"Rest up when you get home, then read some books. Try to enroll in the open university next year."

Sun Chan nodded bashfully, "I know, I’ve been a bit lazy recently. How’s your business going?"

Gu Junming explained the situation, and Sun Chan said, "It seems that Zhao Feitian is the insider."

"But without evidence, it won’t work. This person is very cunning; he always communicates in a single line. And the person assigned to practice with him has escaped. The intermediary doesn’t know who the person above is or who wants to sell a child, while Zhao Feitian only mentioned wanting to adopt with his wife. No other implications."

"Hmm. You said he’s a repeat offender, so was he ever caught before?"

Gu Junming paused, "You mean..."

"If something goes wrong, his story will surely be the same: he wants to adopt a child. See how many times this has happened, let them see if there are similar secret operations; it’s best to thoroughly verify with Zhao Feitian’s wife. Unless his wife is also a repeat offender like him, contradictions will certainly arise. Approach it from others!" said Sun Chan.

"Got it!" Gu Junming laughed, "Every time I’m with you, listening to you talk, it feels like finding clarity amidst confusion."

Sun Chan, embarrassed, replied, "I’m just talking nonsense."

She had watched many TV dramas in her past life and learned from them.

Gu Junming also mentioned that someone reported he was involved with a widow in the disaster area, and he wanted to preemptively warn her in case Sun Chan gets upset should someone talk to her about it.

Sun Chan was furious upon hearing this, "That person is really bad, attacking you like that."

"Because of such rumors, everyone prefers to assume the worst. Even if there’s nothing, you end up stained with gossip. He calculated that I wouldn’t be able to defend myself."

Sun Chan stood still, and Gu Junming stopped too, both staring at each other under the streetlight.

"What’s wrong? It’s very cold. Let’s go home."

Sun Chan held onto Gu Junming’s arm, "What do we do? What if you’re falsely accused like your father was?"

"It won’t happen," Gu Junming said, "I believe the organization will vindicate me. I was just helping that woman move things, and her only son was injured. I stayed at her place for a while. She begged me to help her son join the army, but I said he was too young. I didn’t agree, and though she was disappointed, she didn’t say anything else."

Sun Chan replied, "I’m worried that if the woman was bribed to say things she shouldn’t, what do we do? You always believe that the innocent will prevail, that justice exists. But don’t forget, there were people like your father who were wronged for many years."

Gu Junming remained silent, knowing it was possible. If the widow was so poor, what if someone offered her a lot of money to speak falsely? What if someone satisfied her conditions to frame me?

"I’ll go back. I need to clarify things with her and stop her from spreading lies."

Sun Chan shook her head, "I’m afraid that won’t work. Since the opposition dared to write a letter accusing you, it means they’ve almost done everything needed. If you go back now, you might just fall into their trap and be accused of being guilty. If things escalate, it won’t be good for you."

Gu Junming was silent for a while, then said, "Am I just supposed to wait and do nothing? I can’t play such conspiratorial games."

Sun Chan thought it over, "How about we use this opportunity to catch the mastermind behind it all?"

"How do we catch them?"

Sun Chan leaned in and whispered a few words in Gu Junming’s ear, surprising him.

"Can it really be that simple?"

"Yes, I think it will be. Just investigate it thoroughly," she said.

Gu Junming nodded with a smile, "Alright, I’ll go first thing in the morning. You really are a smart one. When I’m with you, I don’t need to make decisions for many things."

"What’s so smart about me? I haven’t even finished elementary school." Sun Chan was humble, knowing she still had a lot to learn.

Gu Junming took her hand, "You’re a treasure, and I’m lucky to have discovered you. That is my fortune."

Sun Chan laughed as she looked at him, "Since when did you learn to be so smooth-talking?"

"I’m being sincere."

As they talked and laughed, they walked off into the distance, returned home, tidied up briefly, and rested. Gu Junming was preoccupied, determined to catch Bai Chuan, the sly old fox!

Over on Yang Liu’s side, she watched them leave enviously, wondering when she could be this happy herself. Just thinking about it made her face flush slightly; if only Han Dong understood her feelings.

Han Dong was sneezing from Yang Liu thinking about him, rubbing his nose as he went on a blind date at a restaurant.

Across from him sat a very pretty girl, elegant and attractive, from a scholarly family. She was now a middle school teacher, speaking pleasantly, but Han Dong was about to fall asleep, as he didn’t like girls like her!

If he were to marry her, he’d have to listen to her chatter all day long, wouldn’t that be maddening?

He thought about Sun Chan, who wasn’t very talkative, yet he never felt bored around her. Just seeing her made him happy.

Why was that? Was it because she was beautiful?

No, Sun Chan’s looks were just above average. He’d met plenty of women prettier than Sun Chan, yet why couldn’t he forget her? Was it because he couldn’t have her?

Han Dong was lost in thought, and the girl in front of him timidly asked, "Do you not like my talking? I feel I’ve been a bit chatty tonight."

"It’s nothing. It’s late, let me walk you home."

The girl smiled and stood up, thinking that him offering to walk her home meant he was satisfied with her?

She was personally very satisfied with Han Dong: a good family background, handsome appearance, and he supposedly ran his own business, becoming a big boss!

Things were different now compared to years ago, businessmen weren’t discriminated against as much anymore.

Han Dong escorted the girl back to her residential area and was about to leave.

The girl asked, "Um, are you going to be around on the fifteenth of the first lunar month? Will you come over for the Lantern Festival?"

"No." Han Dong smiled, "I’m a dutiful son. You head back, and be careful while walking."

Han Dong turned and strode away.

The girl watched him walk off into the distance, sighed, and then returned home.
