Chapter 1301
Chapter 1301:
The color drained from Gordon’s face. He knew her very well, all right. She had spoken plainly—if they got entangled in the future, she wouldn’t hesitate to abandon him. She wouldn’t even be his friend anymore.
Her words struck him like a physical blow.noveldrama
“You know…” Gordon started to say. She knew that the thing he feared the most was being abandoned.
There was no need to finish his sentence. Gordon knew then that he had completely lost. The thought of not even being friends with Allison almost sent him spiraling.
“I’m sorry. I promise, I won’t act like this again.” His pain was evident in his trembling voice. It was almost like a hand was slowly squeezing the life out of his heart. “Allison, please don’t abandon me.”
Allison exhaled slowly, her face blank. “We are friends, Gordon. And I am your leader. Our relationship won’t change, unless you force my hand.”
She was drawing a clear line between them. His hands were tied.
“I understand.”
Gordon had never felt more vulnerable than he did right there and then. Kellan had slipped into the room unnoticed in the middle of their conversation. He came up behind Allison now and wrapped an arm around her waist, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
“Excuse me, Mr. Herbert, but we have an appointment with my future in-laws. They’re waiting for us at the hotel. You may take your leave now.”
Gordon could only stare at him, speechless.
Kellan was basically telling him to get lost.
“Allison, can I go too?” Gordon looked at Allison with a pitiful expression. “I promise I won’t cause any trouble.”
Though Kellan wasn’t quite sure what had transpired between them, he trusted Allison completely. He could also sense the tension hanging in the air. Gordon appeared genuinely dejected.
Kellan, on the other hand, felt a slight spark of amusement. “Allison’s parents are naturally magnanimous and won’t mind it, but Mr. Herbert, you should be smart.”
Gordon suppressed his frustration, his lips tight. “That depends on how you define it.”
“Enough.”
Allison’s voice cut through the tension.
“Gordon, if you want to go, go change your clothes first. Then wait for us at the hotel. I still have things to discuss with him.”
“Okay.”
Despite his reluctance, Gordon had no choice but to leave. He knew all too well that he and Allison were an impossible pair. A moment of solitude was exactly what he needed to regain his composure.
Once Gordon left, Allison furrowed her brows, her voice turning serious as she asked Kellan, “Has Verruckt’s body been found?” Gordon had searched before, but there had been no trace. So, later, she’d asked Kellan to send a team for a larger search operation.
“No.” Kellan’s expression grew somber. “But the cliff there is steep, with jagged rocks lining the mountainside. If someone fell into the water, they’d likely be devoured by fish. In the forest, there are wolves and other animals. It’s hard to believe he could have survived.”
