Phoebe’s eyes widened in realization.

“Damn it!” Jacob cursed, irked by Bryan’s smug expression.

Ignoring Jacob and Bryan’s silent battle, Phoebe pressed closer to the window, asking Eileen, “For real? You’re expecting again?”

Eileen nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. “Come in and we can talk properly.”

“I can’t,” Phoebe said, tightening her grip on the door handle. “I reek of smoke right now. I’d never forgive myself if I affected the baby. Give us twenty minutes, and we’ll be back!”

With that, she whisked Jacob and the others away. Jacob hadn’t smoked. Phoebe had made sure he quit when she had been pregnant.

But the scent of smoke from someone else who had smoked nearby clung to Jacob, making him smell as if he had.

Still reluctant, Jacob lagged behind. “Seriously? This is really unnecessary. Don’t…”

“Jacob, think about the safety of yourself and your son!” Phoebe snapped, cutting him off with a light slap to the forehead. “If you want to stay on Bryan’s good side, don’t mess with him. Bryan’s not just putting on a show—he means business.”

Through the window, Eileen watched them leave.

Returning to her seat, she resumed snacking, sipping occasionally from her glass. Around half an hour later, the group returned.

The men, now gathered in the corner, all smelled freshly laundered.

Jacob, however, looked displeased. “Bryan, you’re unbelievable. Acting like you’re the only guy on Earth whose wife ever got pregnant!”

Bryan’s face remained calm as he responded, “My wife is pregnant with our second child. Your wife only got pregnant once.”

That smug tone and proud expression—it made Jacob leap to his feet. “You’re too much! Who said no one’s wife could have a second baby, huh?”

Bryan replied, “She’s pregnant with MY second child.”

Jacob froze for a moment, words momentarily escaping him. After a while, he said, “What is that even supposed to mean?”

Bryan said, “Well, your wife isn’t expecting a second yet. Whether her second child will be yours or not is also uncertain.”

“That’s going too far,” Phoebe interjected, her voice tinged with indignation. “It’s an insult to my character. As if I could be pregnant with someone else’s child!”
