Chapter 909
Jason and Hank had come up with the perfect "fishing" scheme: throw out the bait, wait, and reel in the catch-every move planned to a T.
It was late-past midnight-but the two of them were still holed up in the police station, huddled over their laptops in Jason's office, hashing out every detail.
They weren't starting from scratch; they had a collection of flirty lines and slang from past victims, so Hank could just copy and paste the best of them.noveldrama
Hank downloaded a voice changer, made a fresh dating profile, and started chatting up local guys on a social app.
The plan was to lure Harry, but the new profile couldn't look fake. It needed to feel real-so Hank put on a dress, used the voice app, and started sending playful messages, while Jason sat nearby coaching him and skimming through chats for any leads.
All the previous victims had been in local group chats-Harry probably scouted for targets there. Jason told Hank to join those groups too, blend in, and see what turned up.
That night, an officer on patrol heard a woman's voice coming from Jason's office. He wandered over and peeked through the window.
Inside, Hank-dressed to the nines-was sitting close to Jason, who had his hand on Hank's thigh. From where the officer stood, it looked pretty intimate.
With Hank's back to the window, the officer couldn't see his face. He just figured Jason had smuggled in a new girlfriend for a secret rendezvous.
But this woman didn't look anything like Monica. Everyone knew Monica from her frequent visits, but this was someone else entirely.
Grinning, the officer left them alone, shaking his head and thinking Jason was quite the ladies' man.
Over the next few days, Jason and Hank kept at their fishing mission.
The cops who'd been watching Harry were called back.
Harry noticed right away-the police had switched detectives, Jason was gone, and nobody seemed to care about him anymore. He hadn't slipped up, so there was no reason for them to stay on him.
With the heat off, Harry relaxed. It wasn't long before his old urges came crawling back. He grabbed his phone, itching for his next victim.
Monica was too cautious now, so Harry figured he'd have to settle for someone else to scratch his itch.
He logged into the chat app and started scrolling for another unlucky soul.
It didn't take long for word to spread that Jason had been caught late at night in
his office with a stunning woman. Gossip traveled fast, and soon Alisa-Jason's ex-heard all about it.
Jason had already transferred to another precinct, so he was out of
the rumo oop. Hank, very net
worked there and caught every. whisper. He couldn't exactly set the record straight, so he just called Jason to give him a heads-up. Jason didn't care he was only focused on nabbing the killer.
Back at the station, everyone was dying to know who Jason's mystery woman was. Was she a cop?
Someone new? They knew Hanımet
and Jason were tight, so naturally, they tried to get the truth out of Hank.
Hank stammered, "I have no idea."
Admitting the "woman" was actually him? No way. He'd never live it down.
"Hank, why are you blushing?" someone teased. "We're just asking who Jason's got his eye on, not if it's you. You look like you just got caught with a crush!"
Hank's face turned even redder. He squeezed his knees together, looking even more bashful.
"I, uh, need some water," he muttered, making a beeline for the break room. Once there, he called Jason again.
Meanwhile, over in Einsberg, Jason's new station was a lot quieter-no big cases, just routine work. For once, he actually had some time to breathe.
He'd just settled in when a coworker poked his head in. "Hey, someone's here to see you. A woman."
Jason assumed it was Monica. He took a sip of coffee and headed out.
But when he saw Alisa waiting in the hallway, his first instinct was to turn around and walk the other way.
"Jason," Alisa called, hurrying after him.
"What, you can't even look at me now? Do I look that different to you?"
Alisa was working at a beauty salon these days, and with a little extra money she'd treated herself to some cosmetic touch-ups. New outfit, new attitude-she looked way more polished than before.
But Jason's face was unreadable. He just shrugged and said, "If you're determined to go down the wrong path, nobody can save you."
What do you think?
