Chapter 63
Chapter 63:.
Hayden was pinned in place and couldn’t come to for a while.
“I… I need to go see Stella.”
Joseph’s eyes watched her frantic back as she ran up the stairs. Her long fingers ran along the jade model of a mythical beast and her expression took on a sort of satisfaction derived from successfully taunting someone.
Was she really not worried about that night? She certainly didn’t seem to be.
At the international airport in S City….
“I’ve landed, I’m waiting for my suitcase.” Alayna hugged herself as she sneezed.
After sniffling heavily, she continued to respond to her voicemail, “Enough, let’s stop this conversation now. I see my suitcase.”
On the treadmill, a red suitcase was slowly coming toward her. Alayna pocketed her phone and just as she was about to pick up her suitcase, another hand reached over her shoulder and grabbed her luggage with ease.
“You’re welcome.”
Before she could say thank you, a familiar but annoying voice entered her ears.
Alayna swallowed her gratitude and let out a sigh. She glanced at a man out of the corner of her eye and growled, “Did I tell you to help me? Why are you always around?”
Kevin seemed very comfortable around him, as if he had already gotten used to her snobbish and rude attitude towards him. “It’s raining out there, is someone coming to get you? If not, you can get in my car.”
“No, thanks.” Alayna glared at him before pushing her suitcase away as she turned and walked away.
Kevin really always stuck with her as he caught up with her in no time. “Miss Cole, if you have a bad opinion of me, I must explain myself properly. You know how much the incident at the airport affected me.”
Alayna continued her steps as she made a call with her suitcase in tow, essentially ignoring him.
“Hey, can you hear me?” Kevin trotted forward and blocked her path as he dangled a phone in front of her face, “Look.”
“Will you stop fussing?”
Alayna lashed out with her hand and both of their phones fell to the floor at the same time. “I have no interest in your business. It doesn’t matter if we have some misunderstanding or not, it’s all come to an end. I won’t go through with this for Joseph and Hayden’s sake, so please don’t get in my way.”
After saying that, Alayna retrieved her phone from the floor and waved in the distance to someone who seemed to come looking for her, as she walked in her direction.
Kevin was looking back at her and had a helpless expression on his bitter face. She picked up the phone in frustration and accessed it with her fingerprint. The phone vibrated twice and a notification about access denied appeared on the screen.noveldrama
“Huh!” Kevin exclaimed as he stared at the image of a huge cactus on the screen. His face paled, this was not his phone at all.
On the other hand, Alayna was completing her check-in at a hotel reception desk, and the phone in her pocket began to vibrate.
She didn’t glance at the caller, as she instantly connected the call.
“Finally you pick up!” Suddenly a shrill voice rang out, causing Alayna to pull the speaker out of her ear startled.
“Let me tell you again, and it will be the last time. If you don’t marry me, not only will we see each other in court, but I will upload that video on the internet to let the whole world know that you are a despicable rapist. By then, don’t come crying to me when your reputation is ruined.”
“Who are you, did you get the wrong number?” Alayna frowned.
“Who am I! I should be the one to ask you that! Where’s Kevin? Who are you bitch? Ask Kevin to pick up the phone!”.
Kevin, Alayna looked at the caller’s name: Evelyn Duncan.
Her face immediately froze.
“This phone…”
Her mind flashed back to half an hour ago at the airport, when both Kevin and his phone had fallen to the floor. Could it be possible that something so unfortunate really happened…?
Hayden finished his bath and when he came out, Stella was sound asleep. She was sprawled out in the middle of the bed, taking up most of the space, looking very carefree and comfortable.
Hayden shook his head helplessly as he pushed his daughter to the side, “Darling, are you planning to let me sleep on the floor?”
Stella rolled over unconsciously, still immersed in her sleep, she was mumbling something too. “Daddy…”
Hayden’s hand froze in mid-air as he tried to cover her with the blanket. His fingers couldn’t help but dig into the fabric.
This little rascal must have really wanted a father in her life. That was why he was trying so hard to pull her closer to Joseph. She must have been thinking about what it must feel like to have a complete family, like the other children.
Joseph and her, an image of the two of them standing side by side appeared in Hayden’s mind for only a fragment of a second. The next moment, he shook his head jokingly.
However, a flurry of images began to bombard her mind, and although she was more than exhausted, she found it difficult to fall asleep. Her mouth felt dry and parched, which made her lose sleep.
She had no choice but to go downstairs for water.
The whole house was plunged into darkness and, so as not to disturb the maids, Hayden decided to feel her way around as she went downstairs. He was able to feel the table and remembered that there was a pitcher of water on top. After pouring himself a glass of water, he also helped himself to a few packets of crackers.
The dinner from earlier was really delicious, but he couldn’t get carried away with the euphoria, so he consumed almost nothing. Now that he thought about it, he was starving.
As he turned around, he felt a figure blocking his path.
“Oh my God!” She howled, and immediately her whole body crashed into a chair behind her.
The water from her glass splashed onto the floor and half of the contents disappeared.
“It’s me.” From the darkness, Joseph’s voice rang out to break the silence. He turned on the kitchen light.
“You gave me a scare.” Hayden clutched his chest tightly as he stared at him.
“You can walk without making any noise.” Joseph was studying her with an ambiguous look.
He suddenly realized that she was a guest in someone else’s house. She shouldn’t be acting so arrogantly in the first place, more importantly, her actions now were those of a thief, seeing as she carried with her a few packages of cookies and the packaging rattling in her arms. Two of the packages fell to the ground and rolled to Joseph’s feet.
“About this…” He tried to make himself come up with something, “I’m afraid Stella might get hungry in the middle of the night, so I want to bring her some snacks. Is that okay with you?”
Joseph’s gaze darkened.
It was just a few packets of cookies, did he think he was such a mean person? The atmosphere was a little uncomfortable, and to break the deadlock, Hayden pretended to cough a little and announced, “I’ll be right up.”
Before he could run off, Joseph’s raspy voice came from behind him, “I’m hungry too.”
His voice wasn’t that loud, so Hayden thought he was hearing things. He turned around to confirm. “What did you say?”
“Do you know how to make some dinner?”.
After confirming that he wasn’t hearing things, he still felt the whole situation was strange. Were they by any chance going down to eat at the same time? He remembered that Joseph had eaten a lot during dinner.
Despite her doubts, since Joseph had expressed his desire, that might also lessen the awkwardness that hung in the air. She decided to humor him and prepare some dinner, which might also satiate her hunger.
“Ti… you have some fried noodles There should be some food we can work with in the fridge.”
Joseph nodded as he pulled up a chair for her to sit in.
Hayden put the cookies down and rolled up his sleeves before going into the kitchen. Soon after, he put the utensils to use and worked painstakingly.
The noise awakened a maid, who came out of her room. Joseph shot her a warning glance, which caused the maid to run frightened back to her room.
