Chapter 75:

The online celebrity folded her arms and plopped down on the couch. He uttered these words, “One hundred thousand dollars.”

When Hayden heard this amount, the muscles in his face tensed.

The cleaner showed an incredulous expression on his face as he protested, “Miss Harriet, are you playing with us? A hundred thousand dollars? How could we give you that amount?” This was a scam!

Hayden, on the other hand, seemed unperturbed. He tugged on the manager’s sleeves to signal him not to get too upset.

“Miss Harriet, if this is your demand, we have to tell you that, with our respective positions, we will not be able to guarantee that your demands will be met. How about this? We can change your room, and about your compensation, I will request it from the general manager and give you a prompt reply.”

“Just a moment.” The online celebrity lifted the corner of his lips, “The one hundred thousand dollars is the compensation for a cockroach I just discovered, but I actually saw two cockroaches in the room. So the compensation will be two hundred thousand dollars.”

The housekeeping manager’s face paled in death. This person was not only scamming them, she was practically demanding money from them.

Obviously, she was an unreasonable guest who wasn’t going to talk about this. Hayden grabbed the manager, who was about to go ballistic, while maintaining his composure.

“Okay, I’ll reflect your situation to the manager and we’ll be sure to give you a satisfactory answer before you leave this hotel, how does that sound?”

“Of course I accept your terms. Do I look like someone unreasonable?”.

“Of course you don’t. Jeff, prepare a new, clean room for Miss Harriet.”

Hayden gave these instructions with a calm face and a professional smile. After arranging this matter, he dragged the housekeeping attendant out of room 1023.

“Are you crazy?” Once they returned to the office, the manager pounded the table with all his fury, “Hayden, the reason I summoned you is to help me solve this problem, but your problem is that you have no qualms about approving the guest’s demands no matter how ridiculous they are…if everything were like this, the hotel doesn’t need to create a contingency department because money can solve all problems. We will be problem free forever because we have plenty of money.”

Kelsey was several years older than Hayden and had been working at the ST Hotel longer. He was always a calm and mild-tempered person, but at that moment it was as if all his fuses had blown. He was beyond furious.

Hayden had wrinkles on his forehead as he argued, “Kelsey, in my opinion, you can’t lump this issue in with what we’re dealing with normally. Seeing as the anniversary celebration is going to take place at our hotel, we can’t let anything out of the ordinary happen.”

Kelsey naturally knew the importance of this. Excitement washed over her slightly. With a sigh, she resigned herself to this decision, “So, what should we do about this matter? Let me be honest with you, there’s no way you’re going to get this two hundred thousand dollars in compensation approved.”

“I never intended to compensate you with that amount to begin with.” A dark shadow was cast over Hayden’s eyes, “I don’t think this incident is just a coincidence. We need to find out what’s really going on behind our backs.”

After Kelsey had left, Hayden’s assistant, Jeff approached her with a file containing this month’s hotel data.

“Miss Downey, over the past two weeks, the bad comments our hotel has received are abnormally numerous.”

“[The room is dirty and untidy].”

He saw several comments to the same effect, and then saw one that said, “[There are cockroaches in the room].”noveldrama

“Jeff, can you verify that there is nothing wrong with the hotel’s sanitary practices? All the employees who are in the hotel and the housekeeping staff, is there anyone who has seen a cockroach?”

“There is no sanitary problem. I went to consult them as soon as I saw these bad comments, but no one in the hotel had seen any cockroaches. What’s more, that guest was anonymous, so we wouldn’t know which room he was referring to.” Jeff muttered under his breath with a frown.

“Earlier we thought those bad comments were written with bad intent, but little did we know, today something bad really happened. Some guest got to see a cockroach, but why didn’t we see any of those critters?”.

Hayden took a look at the data and discovered that all those bad comments had been made by anonymous accounts. At the same time, those comments were along the same lines, referring mainly to the tidiness and cleanliness of the rooms. Two of those comments talked about having discovered cockroaches.

The more he thought about it, the more it seemed to him that things were really very strange indeed.

“Jeff, no one has touched room 1023, have they?”.

“Who dares to do that? Since you instructed us to preserve the state and leave it untouched, we have done just that. The section where the cockroach was found had all the furniture moved. Now the room is locked.”

“All right, then can you go and bring me the bodies of those dead cockroaches in a plastic bag?”.

“Huh?” Jeff’s eyes widened as he muttered, “Me? I’m afraid of cockroaches.”

Hayden shot him a look, “Or else, should I go look for them myself? You’re a big guy from up north, how can you be afraid of some simple cockroaches?”.

“There are no huge cockroaches in the north, unlike here. These ones here are too scary.” Jeff said with a vindictive expression on his face.

“Then you don’t need to go. I’ll go.”

“Thank you, Miss Downey.” Jeff immediately expressed the utmost gratitude.

Hayden glared at her and acted like she was getting up. “Since I can do it all myself, then I’ll inform the Human Resources Department that I no longer need an assistant.”

“What?” Jeff’s face paled instantly, “You stay here, Miss Downey. I’ll go myself, will that be enough?”.

As he stared at Jeff, who looked scared to death even before he had seen a cockroach, Hayden could only shake his head helplessly. Since when were men today so fearful?

Hayden stuffed the two dead cockroaches into a plastic bag and took them to the laboratory of a nearby medical university. She spent three hundred dollars to hire a master’s student to analyze the cockroaches. The result was what she had thought it would be.

“Mr. Beckham, it seems an incident has arisen at the ST Hotel.”

In the presidential suite of a five-star hotel in S City, Assistant Magnus had just received a call and was briefing Joseph on the situation about N City.

Joseph was reading the contents of a contract and, upon hearing Magnus’ words, he raised his head and asked, “What’s going on?”

“Recently, the ST Hotel has been receiving bad comments, especially on the website. It seems as if someone harbors bad intentions to give the hotel a bad image. I heard that someone is making a fuss at the hotel today.”

Joseph couldn’t help but frown, “Who has enough guts to oppose the ST Group?”

“It doesn’t look like anyone is opposing the entire ST Group. The comments on the website only refer to one particular hotel in town. It looks like Miss Downey is going to have her work cut out for her.”

At the mention of ‘Miss Downey’, Joseph’s eyes darkened a few shades.

From the moment they had a scene in the dressing room to the moment he was boarding the plane, the whole scene replayed in his mind. Despite that, he couldn’t find the reason why he was so worried about this woman.

“Mr. Beckham, should we help Miss Downey in this matter?”. Magnus tried to gauge his boss’s thoughts.

“You don’t need to. If she can’t even deal with such a minimal matter, there is no need for her to remain in her position.”

At noon the next day, the Internet celebrity who single-handedly started the whole ‘cockroach incident’ carried a laser light bag and approached the front desk to check out of her room.

Hayden rushed over, “Ms. Harriet, are you checking out now after staying one night?”

“That’s right.” There was a smug look on her face, “It’s enough for me to stay one night in this hotel, judging by your service. How long do you expect me to stay?”

“No problem. Please help Mistress Harriet go over the check-out procedure.” Hayden looked at the receptionist at the desk.

The Internet celebrity watched as the receptionist went over the procedure and returned her deposit. She exclaimed, “I hope he comes back this way.”

The Internet celebrity couldn’t help but frown, “Wait a minute, did you forget something?”
