Chapter 387
Last night, she once again saw just how much Charles favored and loved Dahlia. Before, she thought that even though Charles had an unconditional soft spot for Dahlia, he was still a man of principles. If Dahlia ever crossed the legal line, she was sure he wouldn't cover for her. But after last night, she wasn't so sure anymore.
As Evelyn got closer to uncovering the truth, she became more anxious about unexpected surprises. Ever since she found out that Dahlia was behind Charlie's death, Evelyn had been on a relentless quest for justice. The journey had been littered with disappointments, mostly because of Charles. This man wasn't someone she could rely on. But she had no choice.
Her only hope was to bank on the genuine affection Charles seemed to have for Charlie. So, before heading to the hospital, Evelyn locked eyes with Charles and said, "Charles, if you have even a shred of fatherly love for Charlie, if you truly feel you owe her, then when Wesley shows the evidence proving Dahlia hired someone to kill, don't get involved. Let Dahlia face the justice she deserves!"
"Alright," Charles replied.
He understood why Evelyn might see him that way—it was because, seven years ago, he'd been quick to judge, which ended up hurting both her and Charlie repeatedly. He couldn't defend what he'd done. He had indeed been biased and lost his sense of fairness in many situations. But things were different now.
"Eve, if what Wesley says is true, I won't just stay out of it; I won't let Dahlia get away with it." Two years ago, when he found out that Charlie's organ donation was linked to Dahlia, he forgave her because it wasn't on purpose. She was just too in love with Sandy and selfishly chose him, which unintentionally led to Charlie's tragic death on the operating table. She was wrong, but it was somewhat understandable. However, if it was intentional, she couldn't be forgiven.

She leaned down and kissed Charlie, and before tears could fall again, she tilted her head back slightly, wiping them away with her fingertips. Without another glance at Charles, she turned and left. Finally, Dahlia would face her rightful retribution, and her Charlie could rest in peace. swnovelnoveldrama
Charles didn't follow her out immediately. Instead, he knelt in front of Charlie's gravestone. Today, unlike the past two years, he didn't need to wipe the dust off Charlie's grave; Evelyn had already done it. He placed the sweets and fruits he brought and, just like Evelyn, kissed Charlie's little face. "Charlie, Daddy will come see you again tomorrow."
Leaving the cemetery, Evelyn drove to the hospital. Charles was a bit behind Evelyn, but he drove quickly, and they arrived at the hospital parking lot almost at the same time.
As she neared the hospital, Evelyn got a call from Wesley, who told her he had the evidence and to head straight to Dahlia's room. Evelyn got out of the car and headed to Dahlia's room. Charles was a step behind her, following closely. When they got to the elevator, Evelyn got in first, and it filled up, so Charles had to catch the next one.
The elevator reached Dahlia's floor, and Evelyn pushed the door open. Inside, Sandy was nowhere to be seen; only Dahlia was lying in the hospital bed. Seeing Evelyn walk in without knocking, Dahlia's
expression changed instantly, filled with grief and anger. "Evelyn, what more do you want from me? Do you really want to drive me to my death before you're satisfied?" she shouted. swnovel
Evelyn didn't respond, her eyes scanning the room but not spotting Wesley. Taking out her phone, she was about to call him when Charles
walked in. Seeing Charles.
eyes filled with tears. "Charles, Evelyn is going too far. Last night she almost drove me to death, and now she's barging into my room. I don't know anything about what Wesley said. It's all Evelyn and Wesley framing me. She just wants me dead." swnovel
Evelyn didn't argue, already dialing Wesley's number. The phone rang from the doorway of the hospital room. Wesley had arrived. The three people in the room turned their attention to the door as Wesley pushed it open and walked in.
What do you think?
