Chapter 1740
One Nick was already a handful, and the thought of another was enough to stir up chaos in the Davis family, leaving the power dynamics up in the air. That's not what Jaime wanted. Even if Jim's niece was just an ordinary person, with no special skills, it was wise to stay ahead of the game.
Jaime's eyes sparkled with a knowing, cold smile. His right-hand man quickly caught on to who Jaime was hinting at and nodded. "Got it."
"Good."
Jaime leaned back in his chair, letting silence fill the room. Just then, his phone buzzed.
It was an unknown number. Jaime never bothered with those and dismissed it without a second thought. But the persistence of the caller was clear when the phone rang again moments later. This time, Jaime hesitated briefly before picking up. "Hello... Yeah, see you soon."
After hanging up, a subtle change washed over Jaime's expression. His confidant asked cautiously, "Mr. Davis, who was that?"
"The Earl's estate, Count Murray wants a chat," Jaime replied, pondering this unexpected invitation.
The confidant looked puzzled. "The Earl's estate? We've never been on the best of terms with them. What's he after now?"
"No idea," Jaime said, squinting a bit as if trying to see through the mystery.
"So, you plan on going?" The confidant had overheard Jaime agreeing to the meet-up.
"Yeah, let's see what he's cooking up," Jaime said, unconcerned about any potential threat. Even with old grudges, no one would dare to act out in the open. There had to be a reason for this meeting.
"But what if it's a trap..." The confidant began, but Jaime cut him off. "It's fine." He rattled off a different address.
"Alright then," the confidant conceded, steering the car around at the next intersection.
...
Twenty minutes later, they pulled up at the agreed spot with Count Murray, a private club.noveldrama
When a waiter led Jaime into the room, Murray was already there, a few minutes early.
"Mr. Davis," Murray greeted, still seated, motioning towards the sofa across from him as an invitation for Jaime to sit down.
"Count Murray," Jaime nodded slightly.
After his confidant gave the all-clear that the room was safe, Jaime took a seat, cutting straight to the chase, the occasion for thiso

Murray chuckled, pouring Jaime a cup of coffee himself. "I was hoping we could become friends."
"Oh? That's a new one. Everyone knows there's been tension between you and the Davis family," Jaime said, matching Murray's smile with one of his own.
"Tension isn't a vendetta, wouldn't you agree, Mr. Davis?" Murray said, lifting his chin a bit. His secretary stepped forward, handing Jaime a contract. "Consider this an olive branch from the Earl."
Jaime took a moment to glance at Murray, then accepted the document. As he
scanned through it, shock flickered across his face. "This..."
Murray sipped his coffee, "Baycliffe might be a bit chaotic, but its potential is something you're well aware of, right, Mr. Davis?"
Jaime clutched the contract, fully aware of the situation in Baycliffe. The discovery of treasures there had drawn a lot of attention. The Davis family had initially wanted in, but Jim had put his foot down, making it a taboo topic.
