The Heartbreak Prescription

My Dad Please Come 954

Chelsea was furious. “Shaun, are you actually defending her?”

Shaun looked at Elise. “You should get off me.”

Elise rose. “Okay. Thank you.”

“I need a secretary,” Shaun continued. “Come and work at Lane Corporation as my secretary.”

Shaun had just made Elise his secretary.

Chelsea couldn’t believe her ears. “You’re actually hiring her as your secretary?” noveldrama

Halsey watched, surprised too. Everyone around Shaun was male, and he didn’t have a female secretary before. Now, he was breaking the norm and having Elise work for him.

Gilbert laughed. “Looks like Mr. Lane is giving Elise special treatment, Halsey.”

Halsey felt a sharp sting in her chest.

Thrilled, Elise flashed a bright smile. “Thank you! I’ll try my best not to disappoint you.”

Shaun nodded. “Good.”

Elise sat beside Shaun and obediently poured him a drink. “Mr. Lane, here’s your drink.”

The other executives laughed. “I’ve never seen Mr. Lane with a female secretary before.”

“Elise, Mr. Lane treats you differently. You’d better hold onto this chance.”

Elise smiled sweetly. “I will.”

Chelsea’s eyes burned with anger as she stared at Elise.

Gilbert was pleased. Even though he and Chelsea were on the same side, she hadn’t been able to win Shaun over yet. Now that Elise had succeeded, it made no difference to him.

Gilbert looked at Halsey, whose face had turned paler. He was in a great mood. “It’s obvious Mr. Lane’s moved on from you now. Why don’t you give me one more chance and be my girlfriend?”

Halsey glared coldly at Gilbert. “You can dream on! I’m never going to be with you.”

She stood up. “I’m going to the restroom.”

Gilbert wanted to follow her. “I’ll go with you.”

But Wendy stopped him. “Gilbert, stay and have a drink with us.”

Gilbert had no choice but to sit back down.

Halsey headed to the women’s restroom. She stood at the sink, washing her hands, when Chelsea came in.

Chelsea approached her. “Did you see Elise?”

Halsey showed no emotion. “So what if I did?”

Chelsea sneered, “Shaun really doesn’t want you anymore. You’re old news, replaced by someone new.”

Halsey straightened. “You mock me, but I think you’re the one who’s really hurt. You scheme and plan, but end up sending the one you love to someone else.”

“Watch it!” Chelsea’s face darkened, but then she laughed. “Elise looks a lot like you, doesn’t she? That has to sting! She’s younger, prettier, and better at pleasing Shaun. You’re definitely in the past. I’m sure Shaun will forget you soon.”

Chelsea knew exactly how to get under Halsey’s skin, hitting every sore spot.

Halsey clenched her fist. “Maybe you should worry about yourself instead.”

With that, Halsey left the restroom and returned to the hall.

She saw Shaun standing up, ready to leave. Elise stood too, holding Shaun’s black suit jacket that had slipped off the sofa.

The sight stabbed sharply at Halsey’s heart-Shaun’s black jacket in the arms of another young, delicate girl.
