Daniel spoke up. "Since we were little, girls in the village have had it much harder than the boys, but that doesn't mean it's right.

"But instead of being grateful, we take it all for granted. Have you ever thought about what would happen if our roles were reversed? Would you still feel like this was just the way things should be?

"Daniel, Denzel, you two have studied so much that you've lost your minds! How can you side with outsiders against your own people?"

Maverick shouted again, but Marcus stepped down harder, and he immediately fell silent.

Daniel took a deep breath and slowly shook his head. "We're not siding with outsiders against our own. And we haven't lost our minds from studying. On the contrary, it's because we've studied and been educated that we've come to realize that our village's way of doing things has been wrong all along.

"Everyone, wake up! Stop forcing the women in our village into these situations. We are all living our first lives. No one is more noble than anyone else. Just because you're parents doesn't mean you have the right to take away their futures.

"If you're worried that Natalie and her people are scammers, then we brothers can guarantee that they are not.

Denzel looked at Dawson calmly. "Let's say that Maverick, your relative, doesn't give you anything in return. Would you do whatever he asks?"

"No, you wouldn't." Denzel cut him off. "No one would go out of their way to support someone who doesn't matter to them.

"Anyone who just sits back and expects others to take care of them is nothing but a waste. They don't deserve to live in this world.

"You have hands and feet. If you can gather herbs to make money, then what's wrong with that?

"Dad, stop saying we've lost our minds from studying. It's because we've been educated that we've reshaped our way of thinking.

"A person can't keep making the same mistake just because they've always done things a certain way. We stand with Lynette, Ann, and Sue.

"If you won't allow them to leave, we'll give you 20,000 dollars and cut ties with you too."

Dawson scoffed. "Oh, wow. Now you're even threatening us? Amazing. Just amazing."

"Dad, don't push people to the edge." Daniel continued, "People need to be grateful. They also need to learn to change.

"Dad, you all need to accept new ways of thinking. You need to adapt. Even if you won't do it for yourselves, do it for your children and grandchildren.

"If you're scared to leave and unsure if you can make it on your own, then let us

go. Let us build a future for ourselves, and when we're ready, we'll come back for you.

"If you don't trust us and worry we won't come back, we will put it in writing and swear before our ancestors."

"We should be better and more capable so we can support them. That is what it means to be a man. That is what makes us worthy of calling ourselves men."
