Chapter 0347
"I can only step in when I am asked." She answered gently, looking between us with questions of her own swimming behind her pearly irises.
"Asked? By whom?" Kane's brows furrowed as an uneasy silence fell over the group. I looked around, sensing the unspoken tension, wondering which one of my family had reached out to the moon goddess. Not that I wasn't grateful for the save, but I needed to understand who was indeed in her pocket and who I could trust. "You can trust everyone in this room." She replied aloud, making me wince a little as I remembered she could dog inside my head just as freely as Astaroth could.
"Stay out of my head." I barked, irritated yet again, but as Kane tapped my ass gently, I sighed and added, "Please."
Finally, Knox cleared his throat as if sensing my growing tension.
"It was me," he admitted quietly, not meeting anyone's gaze. Closing my eyes, I felt my jaw tighten as astonishment washed over me.
"You asked for her help?" I questioned, searching his face, feeling blindsided by this revelation.
"When things started getting out of hand, I didn't know what else to do." He nodded. "I prayed-hoped-that she might hear me."
"And you were not the only one who sought my aid." Selene smiled kindly at him. I glanced between them, confusion knitting my brow.
"Wait, who else?" Kane asked, his tone laced with a hint of the betrayal I, too, felt. Chase and Liam exchanged a brief look before stepping forward.
"We did," Chase confessed. "After everything that's happened, we realised we couldn't handle it alone."
"Why didn't you fill me in at the time?" I asked, a mix of hurt and bewilderment seeping into my voice.
"We were all a little busy, sis. We didn't want to worry you." Liam offered an apologetic smile.
"We weren't even sure she would respond, and besides, it's not like there was time to brainstorm the idea." Chase added with an arched brow.
"Your brothers sought my intervention out of love and concern for you, Lottie. They wished to protect you and those you care about." Selene raised a hand, her eyes gently watching me.
"If you could help, then why not prevent all of this from happening in the first place?" Kane snorted, still appearing as unconvinced as I was.
"Mortals have free will. I cannot alternoveldrama

prevent the consequences that follow. My role is to guide, to illuminate paths that may not immediately visible." Her gaze softened as she regarded him.
"Selene..." Adam finally found his voice, stepping forward hesitantly. "But you intervened today. You saved us."
"Because your brothers asked and
because the balance was
threatened. Astaroth's actions risked upsetting the harmony between
realms She nodded. Looking a ne
Kane and Knox, I took a deep breath, trying to process everything.
"So, you helped because we reached out to you?" I asked finally.
"Precisely," she affirmed. "And because there is more at stake than you realise." I felt a knot form in my throat and suddenly felt awake enough to speak with her alone after all. "What do you mean?" I asked as an uneasy feeling settled in my stomach. Selene glanced at my midsection, a knowing look in her eyes.
"Your children, Lottie. They are...
special." She announced like I hadn't heard that constantly for the last 6 months. "Sage mentioned that they might be the source of the powers I exhibited." I instinctively rested a hand over my belly while waiting for her to speak. She smiled gently, watching me with admiration before finally answering.
"They carry within them a unique essence - a blend of energies that is rare and significant for our kind."
Knox stepped closer, his protective instincts flaring.
"What does that mean for them?" He asked, his voice weaker than I was comfortable with.
What do you think?
