Eric hesitated slightly before raising another delicate concern.
“The boy naturally belongs with us. But Ernest… what about his mother?”
“There’s no complication there.”
Ernest spoke plainly, his tone firm and decisive, his handsome face carefully devoid of emotion.
“She means nothing to me beyond being the child’s biological mother. Our connection ended there.”
Relief visibly softened Eric’s tense features upon hearing that reassurance.
At least that much was certain.
“Ernest, don’t push yourself too hard. Linda just needs time. Eventually, I’m sure she’ll come around.”

In the afternoon, Hadley left the hospital, relieved that Joy was feeling much better.
Once back at the dance studio, she stayed until her usual finishing time, finding Eric waiting outside exactly when expected.

“Are you catching a cold?”
“No.” Eric chuckled softly, shaking his head dismissively.
“It’s just the weather—my throat feels dry.”
“Alright,” Hadley said quietly, deciding to leave it at that.
Later that night, while comfortably nestled in Eric’s embrace, Hadley casually said,
“I’ve made plans to have dinner at Elissa’s tomorrow night, and I might stay there overnight if it gets too late.”
The next day’s treatments would be particularly rough on Joy, and Hadley was determined to be there for her daughter, whatever it took.
Eric wasn’t too pleased.
“You’re planning to stay the night?”
“Yes.” Hadley nodded.
“I have friends too, and sometimes I need to chat and bond with them.”
“Does chatting with friends really take a whole night?” Eric grumbled.
She puffed her cheeks slightly, feigning annoyance.
“It’s just one night!”
Faced with her stubborn expression, Eric sighed softly, giving in.
“Fine, just one night.”
“Okay.” Hadley was delighted, lifting her head to kiss him. He held her head, deepening the kiss.
