Chapter 902
Chapter 902:
His calmness made Hadley uneasy. “You’re not concerned?”
“I am,” he admitted after a pause. “But worrying won’t solve anything. Life goes on.”
His eyes softened as he glanced toward Joy, her cheeks stained from the food. “Joy, how’s your breakfast?”
“Mmm! So yummy!”
Hadley shook her head with a faint smile. He clearly had his own reasoning. No point in pushing it.
“By the way,” Eric said, pointing toward the window, “last night—what were you doing standing there?”
Hadley looked up quickly. So he had seen her. She hadn’t imagined it. Eric chuckled, already knowing.
“You were putting up those decorations, right? They look great.” Then he asked, “Any plans for Christmas?”
Plans?
Hadley hesitated and then glanced at Joy. “Nothing special. Just staying in with Joy.”
It was their usual way of spending the holiday.
This year, with Melba around, it’d be a bit livelier—Melba’s daughter wasn’t coming home from abroad.
Joy tugged on Eric’s sleeve. “Will you stay with me too?”
Children had no filter.
“Joy,” Hadley chided gently, frowning at her. “You can’t say that. He has to spend Christmas with his own family.”
“Oh…” Joy pouted but nodded reluctantly.

Eric’s heart tugged at the sight. He couldn’t bear to disappoint her. And truthfully, he’d rather be with Hadley and Joy.
“How about this?” he offered. “I’ll come over in the evening. If you’re still awake, we can celebrate together and light some fireworks. Sound good?”
“No—I—” Hadley started to object, but—
“Yes! Awesome!” Joy squealed before she could finish. “You have to promise!”
“I promise,” Eric said, ruffling her hair.
“Pinky swear!” Joy grinned, holding out her tiny finger.
“Pinky swear.” He hooked his finger around hers.
Watching the two of them, Hadley sighed quietly. Maybe this was okay. The more people who loved Joy, the better.
After breakfast, Eric left—but instead of heading to the company, he made his way to the Flynn Mansion to speak with Ernest.
The estate was buzzing with activity. A few days earlier, Nyla and Kira had started preparing for Christmas with the staff.
At that moment, Nyla was berating Ernest.
“You never know anything when I ask! The holiday’s almost here. Linda should be back by now. She always handles this stuff, but now she’s nowhere in sight. I’m really exhausted!”
Ernest’s answer was, as always, infuriatingly indifferent. “I don’t know if she’s coming back.”
“You—ugh!” Nyla threw up her hands, exasperated.noveldrama
