Without hesitation, Eric glanced down and yanked it out.

“Eric!” Linda’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What are you thinking? You just came out of a coma. You need rest. You still need proper care!”

Still in his hospital gown and barefoot, Eric didn’t slow down.

He pursued Hadley to the elevator.

Just as she entered the elevator with a group of people, Eric called out, “Hadley! Hadley!”

At the sound of her name, Hadley turned sharply. But the crowd in the elevator obscured her view.

“Hold on!”

Eric arrived just as the doors slid shut.

He pounded on the doors with his hand, clenched his teeth in frustration, and then dashed toward the stairwell.

By the time he reached the ground floor, his heart was racing, and he was gasping for air.

But he didn’t stop, pushing through the lobby doors until he found Hadley on the lawn in front of the surgical building.

“Hadley!”

She turned just as he reached her. Without thinking, Eric pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly against him.

The suddenness of his action almost made her stumble.

“Eric!” Hadley gasped, surprised by his sudden appearance.

Hadley narrowed her eyes at him, immediately taking in the flimsy gown and his bare feet. The sight made her blood boil. “Eric, seriously? How old are you now? You still act like a reckless teenager with no sense of danger!”

It was freezing, and he’d just crawled out of a week-long coma.

The longer she stood there thinking about it, the more furious she became. “If you’re that desperate to die, just give me a heads-up next time.”

Before she could say anything else, Eric reached up, took her face in his hands, and kissed her.

It wasn’t tender. It was fierce and wild, as if he’d been holding it back for years.

Hadley’s eyes flew open, and her body tensed, overwhelmed by the sudden heat of him. It felt like being thrown into a fire.

She wanted to shove him away, but he had her pinned with an intensity that didn’t let her move.

When she tried to speak, he only kissed her deeper, harder.

Left with no choice, Hadley opened her mouth—and bit him.
