Chapter 284
Clara still held the knitting needles tightly in her hands. Wren carefully took the needles from her grasp and set them aside. He then pulled the blanket over her, tucking the corners in gently.
As he gazed at her peaceful face, a hint of tenderness appeared in his eyes. He softly brushed a stray lock of hair from her cheek and whispered, "Goodnight, Clara."
He turned off the main light, leaving only a small lamp glowing softly in the room. Perhaps it was the medication, but Clara was sleeping deeply and didn't stir at all. Wren stood by her side for a moment, quietly watching her. Just as he was about to leave, his eyes drifted to the half-finished scarf on the table.
He remembered Clara mentioning that she wanted to give it to one of her students, which is why she had spent the entire day working on it.
She was being discharged tomorrow and would be heading back to work at school. If Clara saw the scarf unfinished while she was asleep, she would probably feel disappointed.
Thinking of this, Wren made up his mind. He picked up the scarf, took one last look at Clara, and silently left the room.
As soon as he closed the door behind him, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Wren walked toward the stairs, pulling out his phone.
It was a call from Liam. Wren frowned slightly. For Liam to call at this hour, it had to be about something important.
He answered quickly, but before he could speak, Liam's serious voice came through, "Mr. Wren, Mr. Carlisle just had a notice sent from the secretary's office. He's suspended you due to your absences and mistakes at work.
"He's given you a week to report back to the company, or he'll move to demote you."
Wren froze for a second, then continued down the stairs. "I understand," he calmly said.
Liam couldn't tell what he meant by that and said anxiously, "Mr. Wren, I know you're worried about Ms. Salford and don't want to leave her alone, but things in Phoypolis are getting serious. We really need you to come back. And you know Mr. Carlisle's temper-I'm afraid that..."
"There's no need to say more. I understand," Wren interrupted.
As he stepped out of the building, something cold brushed against his face. He looked up in surprise.
It was snowing.
On the other end of the call, Liam hesitated before asking, "Mr. Wren, your flight tomorrow..."
Snowflakes swirled in the air,
landing softly on Wren's face. The et Liam's voice pulled bet

back to his senses.
Judging by how light the snowfall was, it shouldn't affect tomorrow's flight.
"I'll be on the plane as planned. Pick me up at the airport, and don't tell anyone about it," he said.
Liam let out a sigh of relief. "Got it, Mr. Wren."
"If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up," Wren said.
"Please get some rest," Liam replied.
Wren simply replied with a simple "okay" and ended the call.
He looked up at the darkened sky, exhaling a puff of cold air. His expression was somber and cold.
