Shunned By An Alpha, Cherised By A Lycan

Chapter 31

Chapter 31:

I raised an eyebrow, urging her to continue. “What kind of things?”

Seraphina swallowed hard. “Freedom, Alpha. She wants her freedom. Nothing seems to please her; she’s very upset.”

My heart stilled, my mind racing. Freedom? That was impossible. Jasmine was mine, and her resilience was beginning to irritate me. Maybe, in due time, she would learn how to behave properly instead of acting like a spoiled child.

“I’ll handle it,” I said, my voice firm and resolute.

Seraphina nodded, looking relieved. “Thank you.” She bowed again.

I dismissed her with a wave of my hand, my mind already racing through what I was going to do to Jasmine. She had no idea who she was dealing with. I was Ryder—the Alpha, the king. And I would not be challenged, especially not under my roof.

I watched in anger as he left my room. I wished I could drag him back and give him a piece of my mind. But then, wouldn’t he just look at me with that idiotic smirk on his face?

Sighing, my eyes drifted to Seraphina, who stood quietly not too far from me. Her small frame made me wonder how much housework she could handle. It pissed me off that I couldn’t transfer my anger onto her. Regardless of the fact that she’d been around during my argument with Ryder, it didn’t feel right.

Slumping into my bed, I pulled my legs against my chest, my hands wrapping around my arms. I’d never felt so lonely in my entire life. My face held a blank expression, but deep down, I felt like shit.

I came back to the pack, leaving my sorry excuse of a past behind me. I’d wished on a fucking shooting star the night before I came that I’d have a peaceful future. It wasn’t too much to ask for—that’s why I had deluded myself in the first place.

I could feel Seraphina’s eyes skillfully peeking at me through the corners of her eyes. With a deepening frown, I made up my mind to give her something to look at.

“So, you’re the one Ryder sent to babysit me?” I scoffed, my eyes boring into hers. She moved uncomfortably under my gaze, her eyes shifting nervously before a small smile lit up her round face.

“I wouldn’t call it babysitting, miss,” she said gently. “I’m here just to make you comfortable.” Her voice was calm, and I bit my lip.

“In this bloody prison, you mean?” I scoffed again, my eyes moving around the room. It wasn’t an ugly room, nor was it substandard. Perhaps under different circumstances, I would’ve appreciated it, but today, it felt like the four walls of a cell—suffocating and confining.

At my comment, she lowered her eyes, smoothing the material of her apron. “I promise it’s not as bad as it seems. Once you settle in, you’ll find it more comfortable,” she said softly, her small eyes peering at me.

Her words made me look at her in a new light. She sounded like she’d come to settle here from another pack, perhaps.

“You speak like you’ve had the same experience. How long have you been here?” I asked, my eyes widening as I stared at her expectantly.

“I’ve worked here for a while under Alpha Ryder,” was her simple reply as she gave a short nod.

Leaning forward, I gave her a piercing gaze that held her transfixed.

“Then maybe you can tell me exactly what he’s like. I barely know him,” I said, my voice a bit sharper than I’d intended.

“So far, he’s succeeded in kidnapping me,” I ticked off my pinkie finger. “He acted like he was genuinely interested in me,” my next finger followed. “Then he just vanishes, leaving me alone with you,” my middle finger went down last.

Biting her lip, Seraphina’s fingers twisted, and she gave me a quick glance before looking away.

“The Alpha is a complicated person. He doesn’t always express himself the way you’d expect, but regardless of all that, he cares,” she said, her voice sounding like it had been carefully thought out.noveldrama
