The Heartbreak Prescription

My Dad Please Come 933

Shaun glanced up at her, a half-smile tugging at his lips. “What, are you two hiding some kind of secret I’m not allowed to hear?

Halsey didn’t want to give anything away, so she quickly replied, “Of course we are! Women always have secrets-we’re not about to spill everything to you!”

Shaun smirked. “Got it. Now eat. After breakfast, I’ll drive you there and head off. Does that work for you?”

Halsey nodded. “Thanks.”

After they finished eating, Shaun drove Halsey to the hospital where Wendy was working today.

The luxury car pulled up at the hospital entrance. Shaun said, “I’ll walk you up.”

“No need,” Halsey replied quickly. “Just drop me here. I’ve already made an appointment with Wendy—I’ll go straight to her.”

Before Shaun could respond, Halsey opened the car door and hopped out. “Bye!”

She waved at him.

Shaun curved his lips into a smile. “Bye.”

Halsey turned and headed into the hospital.

Soon, she found Wendy in her office. Wendy was wearing her white coat, having just finished surgery.

“Wendy!” noveldrama

Wendy lit up. “Halsey! What brings you to me today-are you just dropping by to hang out?”

“I want to do a prenatal checkup,” Halsey said.

Wendy raised an eyebrow. “Something feels off?”

Halsey didn’t exactly want to admit how active things had been between her and Shaun lately, so she gave a sheepish smile.

“I just feel better getting checked out. It’s about time for one, anyway.”

Wendy nodded. “Alright. Have a seat. Let me take your pulse.”

Halsey sat down and held out her wrist.

Wendy placed her fingers gently on Halsey’s pulse, and after a moment, she smiled. “You and Mr. Lane are back together, huh?”

Halsey froze. She hadn’t said anything, and Wendy had found out herself.

Wendy pulled her hand back. “Don’t worry. The baby’s doing great, but you definitely need to take better care of yourself. Judging by that glow, you and Mr. Lane have been inseparable lately.”

Halsey’s cheeks turned bright red. “Stop teasing me! Shaun and I… well…”

She didn’t even know how to explain it.

Wendy chuckled. “Don’t worry. You don’t need to say anything. I can tell. You and Mr. Lane aren’t breaking up anytime soon.”

“Why do you say that?” Halsey asked.

“You really don’t see it?” Wendy replied. “That man is completely hooked. You picked him back then, and now you can’t shake him off, not even if you tried.”

Halsey could only laugh.

Wendy stood up and grabbed a form. “Come on. Let’s run the full set of tests.”

“Okay.”

Wendy led Halsey through a full prenatal checkup. Everything went smoothly–the baby was growing well and already over two months along.

She also did an ultrasound and heart rate scan. For the first time, Halsey could clearly see the tiny life growing inside her.

This was a life with a heartbeat. A life that was part of her and Shaun.

Wendy watched the monitor.

“Look at that-your little one is already moving around in there. So lively and healthy.”

Halsey stared at the screen, eyes welling with tears. The feeling of becoming a mother for the first time was incredible.

When the checkup was done, the two of them walked out together. Halsey held the ultrasound printout gently in her hands, a tender glow lighting up her face.

“Just because the baby’s healthy doesn’t mean you and Mr. Lane can go wild,” Wendy said. “You two can keep things going, but take it easy, especially during the first three months, got it?”
