The Heartbreak Prescription

Halsey’s face flushed red. “I know…but Shaun’s just… Saying no never works on him.”

Wendy chuckled as she looked at Halsey.

Honestly, Warren used to say Shaun was just a big softie, hopelessly in love. But wasn’t Halsey the same? People always said that when two love-struck people end up together, it’s a recipe for happiness. Those two couldn’t live without each other.

Wendy smiled and said, “Since you and Mr. Lane are back together; it’s time to tell him you’re pregnant.”

Tell him she was pregnant?

Truthfully, Halsey had been thinking about it.

“I can tell Mr. Lane loves kids. He’s responsible and capable. Letting him know about the baby is a good thing. I believe he’ll make a great dad.”

Halsey knew Shaun liked children. He had mentioned wanting one before.

And she believed he really would be a good father.

She nodded. “Yeah, I’ll find the right time and tell him.”

Just then, a young nurse called out from behind, “Dr. Crone.”

Wendy glanced over. “I’ve got to go.”

Halsey nodded. “Go on. Don’t worry about me.” noveldrama

Wendy turned and left.

Halsey stayed where she was, gazing down at the ultrasound printout in her hands. A soft, happy smile curved her lips.

That was when a familiar voice rang out.

“Halsey? What are you doing here?”

She looked up and saw someone she recognized-Gilbert.

The person she hated the most.

Halsey’s expression turned cold. “Hello, Gilbert. Considering our relationship, I don’t see any reason to make small talk. Let’s just pretend we’re strangers.”

She didn’t want to waste a second on him and immediately turned to leave.

However, Gilbert stepped in front of her.

As the saying goes, people always crave what they can’t have-Gilbert was no exception. Staring at her delicate, beautiful face, he gave her a smug smile.

“Are you just gonna ignore me now?”

“After everything you’ve done to my family, we’re no longer family friends-we’re enemies. Don’t ever show up in front of me again!”

Gilbert narrowed his eyes. “This is all because of Shaun, isn’t it? Are you two back together?”

“What Shaun and I do is none of your damn business,” she snapped.

She tried to brush past him, but Gilbert reached out and grabbed her wrist.

“You-”

At that moment, the ultrasound printout in her hands slipped and fluttered to the ground.

Gilbert noticed it. “What’s that?”

Halsey immediately bent down to grab it. Unfortunately, she was too slow. Gilbert was quicker-he snatched it up before she could reach it.

“You’re here for a checkup? Are you sick-”

He stopped mid-sentence.

His eyes locked onto the bold letters at the top of the paper: “Ultrasound Report.” Underneath, it clearly showed that Halsey was pregnant.

Gilbert was thunderstruck. He had known she and Shaun were seeing each other again, but he didn’t know she had slept with him and was now even pregnant with Shaun’s baby.

Halsey glared daggers at him.

“Don’t you know what privacy is? What I’m doing here has nothing to do with you! Now give me back the report!”

She reached to snatch it from him.

Gilbert held it up high, out of her reach. His voice was hoarse, filled with disbelief. “You’re pregnant?”

Halsey crossed her arms. “What, can’t read? Yes, I’m pregnant.”

Gilbert’s expression twisted with anger. “You’re actually pregnant with Shaun’s baby!”
