The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus)

Chapter 689 A Call from Prison

Wesley looked at the disconnected call and sighed softly. "Forget it. We can't win an argument against Charlotte."

"So are we just going to give up and let Nat and Marcus stay at the Walker residence?" Laura's eyes began to water. "It's my fault. I'm useless."

"It's not your fault." Wesley's heart ached. "Charlotte has a point. Natalie is their biological daughter, but she was switched at birth. She didn't get to live a good life with the Langleys.

"Now, she just wants to care for Nat and make it up to her. We should understand that. Besides, we don't live that far from them.

"If Nat and Marcus live with the Walkers, we can just visit them whenever we have time. And because of the Umbrahex, you've suffered so much over the years too. I've always felt bad about that."

As he spoke, he pulled Laura into his arms. "Laura, honestly, Charlotte wasn't wrong. We missed out on a lot of good years while focusing on your treatment.

"Now that they're willing to take care of Nat and Marcus, we can enjoy the life we once missed out on. Doesn't that sound good?"

"I suppose that's the only way." Laura leaned against Wesley. She was still feeling a little regretful, but she was willing to listen to him.

"Our goal has always been to make sure Nat and Marcus are happy," Marcus stated. "As long as they're happy, that's enough for us."

"I agree." She was finally convinced. "Okay, we won't fight Charlotte over it. I'll send her a message to tell her not to be mad at me."

Wesley chuckled. "She's not really mad. She was just putting on a show so that we won't argue with her."

"Even so, I still want to send her a message."

"Go on, then."

Laura picked up her phone and sent Charlotte a message. "Charlotte, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I won't fight with you anymore about where Nat stays. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"

Charlotte replied, "Thank you, Laura. I wasn't really mad. I hope you forgive me too. Just this once, let me be selfish, okay?"

When Laura saw Charlotte's reply, her eyes reddened. She showed the message to Wesley. "Charlotte replied."

"I told you, she's not truly mad. She just did it on purpose because she knew you'd give in."

"You're right. I just can't carry myself the way she does."

Laura's voice grew soft. It wasn't something she could help. After all, her background had always been different from Charlotte's.

Laura grew up in an orphanage. If she hadn't met Wesley, who fell in love with her, she would've never become Mrs. Holden. Her life would've been painfully ordinary. Perhaps, it might even be filled with misfortune.

If one were to combine beauty with something else, it would be a blessing. Otherwise, with beauty alone, it would likely turn into a curse.

Growing up in the orphanage, Laura had nothing but beauty. She has no resources to back her up. Meeting Wesley had truly been the luckiest thing in her life.

Charlotte had unsurprisingly won her battle against Laura and Wesley. She was all smiles as she gave orders to Gorge, making sure everything was in place.

Just then, Gorge had just ended a call and cautiously stepped forward. "Mrs. Walker, the prison called. They say Emma is dying. She wants to see you one last time."

"Emma?" Charlotte hadn't heard that name in a long while. She had almost forgotten about Emma. Now that Gorge brought it up, she was momentarily confused.noveldrama

"Yes, Emma. She tried to take her own life a few times in prison, but none of them were successful. This time, she's gone on a hunger strike, and it's been days now. They found out and have been giving her IV fluids."

Gorge sighed. No matter what,

Emma was once deeply loved by the

Walkers. Since she was young,

everyone in the family doted on her.

When Natalie returned, if Emma had

behaved herself and not caused trouble, she could've stayed with the Walkers.

Charlotte stayed silent for a moment before speaking, "If she wants to see me,

let's meet her. We can visit Sky as well. How is he doing lately?"

At the mention of Sky, Gorge's face lit up a little. "The prison said he's been doing well and even demonstrated good conduct. His lawyer's fighting to reduce his sentence further."

Charlotte nodded. After all, he was her son. He had always been brilliant. It was a pity he'd been blinded by Emma. Let's go! We'll visit the prison and see Emma."

"Yes, Mrs. Walker."

Charlotte and Gorge set out. Soon, they arrived at the prison. Once the procedures were done, they met with Emma, who was weak beyond recognition.

"Mom..." Emma burst into tears the moment she saw Charlotte. She called her "Mom", just like how she used to in the past. Her voice was filled with sorrow.

But Charlotte only looked at her

coldly and said, "Don't call me that. I'm not your Mom. Cindy is your

well. Besides, your name is Meloney. You're not a Walker nor a part of our family."

Emma cried and shook her head. "That's not true. Mom, I know I was wrong. I truly know that now. I'll behave from now on. I won't fight Natali@again. Mom, I don't want to be in prison anymore. I want to go home. I really want to."

"Emma, I'm not letting you out," Charlotte said, her voice ice-cold. "Do you really know your mistakes? Or are you just scared of staying in prison?

"Prison life is dull. You can see the end right from the start. You just want to go out and go back to being a Walker. You miss the luxury and glory.

"Do you really see me as your mother? Probably not. Emma, I only agreed to see you out of sympathy. I don't feel a tiny shred of love for you.

"I raised you and doted on you for years, so the Walker family doesn't owe you a thing. I owe you nothing. If anything, you and Cindy owe me. You owe Nat.

"The reason I came here is to tell you that my daughter is married to Marcus, and she's going to be a mother. My daughter, Natalie Walker, is pregnant with Marcus' child.

"Emma, give up. If you want to continue with the hunger strike or kill yourself, go ahead. We won't feel sorry for you. We won't save you."

With that, Charlotte turned around and walked away.

Emma lay on the bed. When she heard Natalie had married Marcus and was pregnant, it hit her like a lightning bolt.

The man she had loved since childhood had married the woman she hated the most.

She had always dreamed of being Marcus' bride, but he had never loved her. But now, he'd actually married Natalie?

Was it just because she wasn't the real daughter of the Walker family? Even Charlotte and William, who had raised her for so many years, had thrown her away like trash.

She'd been sentenced to life, so the rest of her days would be confined to this small space. What was left for her to live for?
