Chapter 919
Chapter 919:
Hadley let out a dry laugh, brushing out the creases in her clothes and moving to the side, putting space between herself and Linda.
The wait stretched on, the sky outside lightening with the first hints of dawn.
At last, the operating room doors swung open.
Ernest approached the doctor first.
“Mr. Flynn,” the doctor said, peeling off his mask, his face neutral. “The surgery went well. Your brother is stable—for the moment.”
“For the moment?”
The phrase hung heavy, chilling the air.
Ernest’s lips pressed into a thin, cold line. “What’s that supposed to mean? Explain clearly!”
“Alright,” the doctor said, pausing briefly before continuing. “Mr. Flynn arrived a bit too late for the best surgical window. We aren’t truly certain of his condition until he wakes up.”
The unspoken weight settled in, and Linda shot Hadley a venomous look, her accusation clear—Hadley was to blame.
Hadley kept her eyes down, silent.
Ernest’s frown deepened. “How soon might he wake, then?”
“It’s unpredictable. It could be any minute, or it might take days—maybe longer.”
He left the rest unsaid, but the echo was familiar.
Hadley’s chest tightened; she’d heard those words years ago when Ernest had his own accident, slipping into a coma that lasted four years.
The doctor went on. “We’ll move him to a ward now and monitor him closely for the next 72 hours. Waking up within that time would be a good sign.”
Ernest took a deep breath and nodded. “Alright.”

Eric was transferred from the operating room to a VIP suite.
Inside, he rested silently, a respirator mask over his face, wires linking him to beeping monitors.
Once everything was settled, the doctor spoke again. “Mr. Flynn, if you can, have family or friends stay with your brother, talk to him. He might not be conscious, but he could still hear you.”
“I know,” Ernest said, drawing from his own past.
“I’ll be in my office. Call if you need me—I’ll check in regularly as well,” the doctor said.
“Thank you,” Ernest replied.
As the doctor departed, Ernest turned to Hadley and Linda. “Let’s go see him.”
He led the way, Linda trailing close behind, with Hadley lingering at the rear.
Inside, the rhythmic hiss of the respirator mingled with the monitors’ soft chirps. A nurse stood nearby, jotting notes.
Ernest gazed at Eric, his expression tight with worry. “Eric, I know you’ll fight through this and open your eyes soon.”
He then turned to look at Hadley. “Hadley…”
But before he could finish, she spun on her heel and strode out.
“Hadley? Hadley!”
Both Ernest and Linda shouted her name, but Hadley kept moving, her steps hastening until they turned into a sprint. She had to get out of there, immediately!
