Kellan clenched his jaw. The reality of the situation was crushing. Holding onto two people at once was impossible. And with Fabian still being held up by the group of black-clad men, there was no backup coming.

If it had been him, he would never willingly give up his life for anyone. Even so, he couldn’t help the pang of hurt that the scene brought him.

The cold wind was blowing fiercely from all directions—death was close at hand. But a part of Verruckt still wished that Allison would turn and look back at him, even just once.

Everything seemed to be happening all at once.

Verruckt saw Kellan’s expression go from shocked to desperate in a matter of seconds.

The next thing he knew, Kellan dove in, head-first, his arms already reaching out to her.

Fabian was still running toward them, powerless to stop any of it. The poor man had never imagined reuniting with his biological daughter, but now, he was already losing her again, right before his very eyes.
