Chapter 223
Chapter 223:
“Yeah, take me home,” I responded, leaning back against the leather seat. I’d never planned any surprise in my life, but I wanted to do something above the basic. Most of the ideas I thought of, I discarded because they didn’t sit well with me. Maybe I should have gone to the mall to get the basic things I needed for tonight, but I thought better of it. Ryder had ordered me to rest, and if I went to the mall, the news would somehow reach him, and the surprise would be ruined.
On my notes app, I typed out a list of things I wanted us to do together. I planned to prepare a meal for him—I’m sure he’d never tasted my food before. I’d make his favorite dish and, of course, his best cocktail too. The second thing was to decorate the terrace with flowers, aromatic candles, and lanterns…
The car lurched forward, throwing my head into the driver’s seat headrest.
“Ouch,” I winced, rubbing the slightly swollen spot on my forehead. My eyes moved to Seraphina. She still hadn’t woken up. Her head was dangling loose from her neck, her short brown hair covering the sides of her face as though she were unconscious… Seraphina was unconscious?
Why hadn’t Maxwell apologized to me? I shot him an angry glare through the rearview mirror.
“Maxwell,” I whispered quietly. But it wasn’t Maxwell—shit, shit. Where was he? And why was Seraphina unconscious? My heart thumped roughly against my ribcage. For a moment, I was convinced it was loud enough for the driver to hear. My mouth went dry as I pressed my face against the tinted window.
Fuck! Where was I?
“Three more hours…” I sighed, glancing at my watch. These days, an hour felt like two. Imagine what three hours would feel like?
For the first time in a long while, I wanted to throw my work aside and head home, to be with Jasmine, to be precise. But my schedule had other plans for me. I had a meeting with another alpha in an hour, a budget review, and another meeting for resource allocation. Home seemed like a distant dream.
I rolled up the sleeve of my shirt to my elbows and leaned back in my swivel chair, my hand tangled in a mess of ruffled hair. I could feel my eyes fluttering. A calm feeling washed over me, and my eyelids grew heavy with the much-needed sleep as I stared at the white ceiling.
A knock on the door pulled me out of my peaceful state. I frowned. “Come in,” I called, straightening up in my chair. The knob turned almost immediately, and Kade walked in. His usually pale face had a flush of color, his steps quick, and an eager expression on his face. This better be good.

His eyes never left mine as he slid a brown file onto my desk. “It’s about Enzo’s sister,” Kade explained.
His voice trailed off as he continued. “That’s a picture of her as a baby, around two years old. I couldn’t get my hands on any originals since Alpha Raphael has them all in his custody. I got her nanny and a sketch artist to make this drawing…” He paused for a moment, watching my expression.
There was a brief silence as I scanned through the sketches. They all depicted the same person—a little girl, about two years old, with thick black hair and brown eyes…
“How she went missing, no one really knows,” Kade continued. “But they discovered years later that she had been in an orphanage. We don’t have any further clues. Whoever took her from the orphanage made sure to leave very few traces of their identity. It was a clean job.”
I nodded slowly. This was beginning to feel like a dead end. A cloud of doubt settled over my expression. Would I ever find the Viper pack princess?
The sketches Kade showed me were similar to the ones I’d gotten from the orphanage. All this information was what I had already guessed—nothing new to keep my hope burning.
“Thanks, man,” I muttered, shaking his hand. Kade’s grip lingered a little longer than usual.
“We’re going to find her. Even if that’s the last thing I do, I’ll do it for the pack,” I knew he meant every word. His bright eyes said it all. With a nod, he turned his back and walked away.
